Before and/or After School Program

There is a Before and/or After School Program (BASP) component offered at many UGDSB schools.  Before and/or After School Programs are provided in these schools by Third Party Child Care Operators and their staff for children between the ages of 3.8 years to 12 years of age. Parents of children who will be registered in Kindergarten to Grade 6 for September 2023 are asked to complete a Board survey each year during Kindergarten Registration and up until the end of January in schools where a BASP is not already available.  The answers will assist in determining the potential need for a BASP for the following school year.  Demand and viability are two key components that are considered when expanding or opening a BASP.  School Boards work in collaboration with the local County Consolidated Municipal Service Manager (CMSM) and also consult with Child Care Operators to determine demand and viability of both existing and new Before and/or After School Programs.  A Program is offered only where there is sufficient need from parents, and where there is viability.  This means that the numbers are viable for a Third Party Child Care Operator to provide a Program and that there is a Third Party Child Care Operator able to provide a Program.
