Library Learning Commons Update

Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you Cobra families for your support with our Scholastic Book Fair.  Did you know that for every $10 you spend at the Fair, $6 comes directly back to our school? (Provided we meet our goal of $4000 or more in sales.)  Although our final tally is not available for this newsletter, we are very close to making it with one more day of sales left.  Your support of this literacy fundraiser is key to our obtaining new books and resources for our library and classrooms, so again, thank you.

Forest of Reading

Our Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2/3 students have completed the Blue Spruce program and How to Party Like a Snail by Naseem Hrab received the most votes.  For Silver Birch Express, the winner for our school was The Skull written by Jon Klassen.  Apartment 713 by Kevin Sylvester won for Silver Birch, and The Last Saxon King written by Andrew Varga, and The Fort written by Gordon Korman tied for the Red Maple program.  Our choices have been submitted to the Forest of Reading program and the results from across Canada will be announced in a few weeks.  Many of our participants will be attending a literary event hosted by The Bookshelf in downtown Guelph on May 10th.  Several Canadian writers will be putting on workshops to engage our readers in the writing process.

Thank you for your continued support of our Library Learning Commons programs.

📢 May Updates from KHPS School Council! 🌟

Dear Kortright Hills Public School Families,

As we embrace the warmer weather and the excitement of spring, we have some important updates and exciting events to share with you. Please take a moment to read through the latest happenings:

  1. May Council Meeting: Join Us! 📚

Our next School Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 13th, in the school library. The social will begin at 6:15 pm, followed by the meeting at 6:30 pm. All parents and caregivers are welcome to join us. We’d love to have you participate in discussions, share your ideas, and contribute to our school community.

  1. First Aid Kit Fundraiser Success! 🚑

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our First Aid Kit Fundraiser! We’re thrilled to announce that we successfully raised $2005 to support our school community. Your generosity is truly appreciated. We’re currently awaiting shipment confirmation from the supplier. Due to unforeseen circumstances, including the supplier’s warehouse move, there has been an unanticipated delay in shipping our order. We anticipate shipment confirmation later this month. Thank you for your understanding and patience. We’ll communicate pickup dates via The Friday 5 emails and our Facebook group as soon as possible.

  1. KHPS Council Does Canada’s Wonderland on Friday, June 7th! 🎢

Get ready for a thrilling adventure at Canada’s Wonderland! We’re excited to offer discounted tickets for general park admission on Fri. June 7th. Tickets are $36.90 per person, all-inclusive, with $3 staying at KHPS for our playground improvement goals. Orders must be placed via SchoolCashOnline by noon on Fri. May 17th. Please ensure your order is fully placed by confirming you have received an email receipt. Tickets will be available for pickup, or sent home with your student if approved, prior to our day at Wonderland. Please note that this is not a school-supervised event, no staff will be present. All families are responsible for their own transportation to the park and supervision of children.

  1. Coming in June: Cobra Summer Kickoff! ☀️

Mark your calendars for the Cobra Summer Kickoff on the evening of Thursday, June 13th. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and The Friday 5 for details about this exciting event. It’s sure to be a fantastic way to kick off the summer season with our KHPS community!
