Principal’s Message

Lightning, welcome to the first week of the 2020-2021 school year!

We are so excited to welcome you back into your school!  I have been thoroughly impressed with the positivity I have seen from staff as they work hard to put into place the health and safety recommendations from Public Health.  Last week they completed training on COVID, Mental Health, Anti-Racism and the New Math Curriculum.  They have been collaboratively working on how they are going to adjust what they do to suit the new world order.  Their unwavering dedication to the safety and education of Laurelwoods students is apparent in all they do.

On Tuesday and Wednesday our classroom teachers will be phoning your house.  They will let your child know what class they are.  As many staff will be using their own personal phones to make these calls you may see an incoming call that indicates No Caller ID is available.  Please pick up.  We don’t want your child to miss this opportunity.  Please note that staff are not allowed to share any information about other student so you may need to have your child connect with friends after to discover if they are in the same class.  Please note at this time there will be NO class changes by the direction of the school board.  Your child’s placement is firm.

For students in remote learning you will be contacted over the course of the week about next steps for the virtual school.

I would encourage you login to the transportation website at https://www.findmyschool.ca/Login?ReturnUrl=%2FSubscriptions%2FLogin.aspx to check on the bussing information for your child.  A number of routes have changed.  I also encourage you to sign up for their subscription service so you know if there is any disruption to a route on a given day.  If you are not planning on having your child ride the bus please complete the Opt Out sheet on the website.  If you have alternative plans please communicate that to the teacher when they call you.

A reminder that we have staggered entry for the next two weeks.  The first day students are at the school is Thursday with only students whose last name begins with A-L attending.  Students whose last name begins with M-Z will attend on Friday.  Please refer to the staggered entry plan that was shared in the site specific plans. There are a lot of new routines in place and having a smaller group allows us an opportunity to teach these new procedures in a small group.

A reminder that by order of Public Health parents are not allowed in our school yard or in our buildings.

Feel free to contact me at anytime . My extension is 223 or you can reach me at [email protected].

I look forward to meeting your children this week!
