Education & Mental Health Week & Staff Message (May 4th, 2020)

Posted May 4, 2020

Good Afternoon Everyone!

May 4th to 8th is Education and Mental Health Week in UGDSB – see this WEBLINK for more information. This year’s theme is Together We Can. This week, we will focus on the Four M’s of Mental Health; a movement created by Dr. Sue Varma:

  • Movement means to get moving and to exercise. Exercise is important because it helps to manage anxiety and stress.
  • Meaningful Connections are important because social interactions boost mental health. In these times of physical distancing, it is still possible to connect with loved ones and friends through video chats.
  • Mastery means learning a new skill. You don’t have to be perfect at this, but learning a new skill or hobby is great for your mental health.
  • Mindfulness means so much more than meditating. Mindfulness is anything that makes you happy, whether it is colouring or taking a nature walk.

To acknowledge Education and Mental Health Week, the MPS staff has a few things planned. Below is a “Spelled Out Message” from us to all of you! We really miss seeing everyone, and hope that this message brings a big “distance” smile from us to you! Also, if you are driving by Maryborough PS this week, you will see signs added to the fenceline in front of the school (one sign will be added each day this week) with some inspirational messages and quotes that we feel are important to remember during this time. A photo of the first sign can be seen below.

We miss seeing everyone in person, but know that we are thinking of you! If there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to reach out!
