Parent Retrieval of Student Items – Information for Maryborough PS Parents

Dear Parents and Guardians,

In light of the Ministry of Education’s announcement that schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, Maryborough PS has developed a plan for families to retrieve the personal items belonging to students (i.e., shoes, medications, pencil cases, etc.) from our school.

Important Dates:

  • June 3rd – Following the procedure below, parents/guardians can come to the school during their assigned time block to pick up items belonging to their child(ren)
  • June 4th – Between 9 am and 11 am and 3 pm and 5 pm; additional time blocks for parents/guardians to come to pick up student items (those who are unavailable on June 3rd)
  • A reminder call out will be made to the whole school on June 2nd

Schedule for June 3rd:

  • Please arrive at the time listed with the first initial of your child’s LAST NAME:
    • A-C: 9:00 to 9:30 am
    • D-G: 9:40 to 10:20 am
    • H-L: 10:30 am to 11:00 am
    • M-R: 11:10 to 11:40 am
    • S-Z: 11:50 am to 12:20 pm
    • Afternoon (any letter) – 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
  • Please note: As we will be practicing social distancing practices, you will likely have to wait in line

The Following Procedure will be followed by Parents/Guardians when picking up items:

  • Send only one adult per family; prior to arriving, please complete the COVID-19 Self-Assessment
    • If you are exhibiting symptoms, have travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days, or if you have been in contact with a confirmed case, please do not come to the school
    • Call the school office (519-638-3095) on June 3rd to make alternate arrangements
  • Arrive at the school during your allotted time block; we ask that parents not bring their children
    • You may ask another adult to pick up your child’s items; see the instructions below under Frequently Asked Questions for further information
  • Park in the parking lot or along the road in front of the school (while observing social distancing)
  • Line up in the designated area (on the hard top near the portables); pylons will be used to show you where to wait (to observe social distancing)
    • While waiting in line, Lost & Found items will be set up for you to look at
  • When you get to the pylon at the front of the line (at the Parking Lot doors), there will be a staff member who will greet you at the door and will ask for your last name
    • If you have items belonging to the school (i.e., textbooks, library books, home reading books), there will be a bin at the front of the line for you to leave these materials
  • Staff members will have already pre-organized your child’s items into labelled plastic bags; the plastic bag(s) for your child(ren) will be brought forward and will be set on the ground
  • Please pick up these bag(s) belonging to your child(ren) and proceed to your vehicle

Important Notes:

  • Access will be prohibited to anyone exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, to anyone who has travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days, or to anyone has had close contact with a confirmed case
  • You may wear your own mask or gloves; however, these will not be provided
  • Please observe social distancing at all times (by standing 6 feet apart)
  • Unaccompanied students will not be permitted at this time
  • Your child’s belongings will already be gathered in a labelled plastic bag; therefore, you do not need to bring your own bags or containers
  • This time is designated for the pickup of student’s personal items only; no meetings with staff or other activities are permitted at this time
  • There will be no access to classrooms or washrooms
  • There will be no outdoor supervision; and the playground and yard are closed

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I return items belonging to the school?

  • Items like home reading books, textbooks, and library books may be returned at this time
  • When you get to the front of the line, there will be a bin for you to place these items into

Lost & Found Items

  • On pick up day, any unclaimed items will be displayed on tables
  • While you are waiting in line, feel free to look at these items and take those that belong to you

Can I send my child to pick up their items?

  • No, please send an adult; you may send another adult in your place

Can I ask another adult to pick up my child’s items?

  • Yes, you may designate another adult to pick up your child’s belongings
  • In advance, please send an email to [email protected]; with your child’s name and the name of the adult who will be picking up these items
  • You may also send a note with this adult on pick up day
