Kindergarten registration is back – here’s what parents/caregivers need to know

Posted December 9, 2022

It’s that time of year again! The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) is looking forward to welcoming a whole new group of kindergarteners to school. Starting school can be overwhelming for both students and parents/caregivers. Here is everything you need to know to make that transition as smooth as possible.

Registration for new UGDSB Junior Kindergarten (JK) and Senior Kindergarten (SK) students for September 2023 begins on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 and closes on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 4:00 pm.

Here is a step-by-step guide on the registration process:

  1. Pre-register online at between January 10 to January 27, 2023, at 4:00 pm.
  2. Once you have registered, make sure that you have received a confirmation email to your inbox (please check your spam folder if you do not receive it in your main inbox folder).
  3. Make an appointment with your school to provide the required documents – this appointment can be done online or in person.
  4. If applying to French Immersion, you must complete the application process, including submission of all required documents by 4:00 pm on January 27, 2023.

The online pre-registration process allows families to fill out the pre-registration form when it’s convenient for them. If parents and guardians require assistance pre-registering online or do not have access to technology, they are asked to contact their child’s home school. Also, if English is not your family’s first language, the UGDSB website can be translated by selecting the preferred language from the “Select Language” button on the top right-hand side of the website. There are over 90 languages to choose from.

All UGDSB schools that offer French Immersion at the Junior Kindergarten level have an enrolment cap. All parents/guardians wishing to apply for JK French Immersion must have completed their pre-registration and FI application by January 27, 2023 at 4:00 pm in order to be considered ‘on time.’ For more information on the JK FI application and selection process, visit

English Track families are asked to complete their registration during the registration window. Currently all registrations for the 2023-2024 school year are for in-person learning. For more information about kindergarten registration, please visit the board website.
