Monday Message – Week of January 28, 2019

Posted January 28, 2019

Greening Committee – So far, our Greening Committee has 5 members! Thank you for your interest. Here is the original message sent out earlier this month in case you are still considering joining us. Please note that you DO NOT need to be a parent of a student at MVPS to express your interest. This committee is open to extended family members and community members as well.

Message from January 8: “We are looking for parent or community volunteers interested in being part of a School Greening Committee. This multi-year committee will begin to look at greening initiatives (natural structures, outdoor classrooms, trees,‚Ķ) for our school property. If you are interested, please contact me directly (519-940-3002 x223). I have also included a link to the Board’s School Ground Greening page to give you a better idea and provide some UGDSB examples of greening initiatives elsewhere.”

P.D. Day – Friday, February 1, 2019 is a P.D. Day set aside for assessment and evaluation. There is no school for students.

Report Cards – Term 1 report Cards go home with students on Wednesday, February 20th.

Help! I don’t understand my child’s math! – Please see below regarding a Math night on February 13. For fear of ‘overselling’ Blayne Primeau, ūüôā I will state that Blayne is a highly regarded Mathematics Lead for our Board. He is sought after by many as a speaker and workshop lead. I had the privilege of having him as a teacher on my staff when I was the principal at Erin P.S. He is also our curriculum Leader and has worked with several staff here at MVPS. He has a wealth of practical information. I hope, regardless of how old your children are, you’ll set February 13th aside and join us from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Message from School Council

Hello MVPS community,

Hoping everyone enjoyed a great meal at Deja Vu Diner this past weekend.  If you were able to head over to the diner, $3 from every kids meal sold all weekend will be donated back to MVPS.  As soon as we get the total amount sent over to us, we will share with all of you how much was raised to support our school.  Thank you to everyone who participated!

This year the MVPS Parent Council is working very hard to be more engaged and interactive with our community.  There are a number of great family events we are currently in the works of planning so please stay tuned for more information on those.

Our next event that we are hosting is for MVPS parents and guardians.  If you are like some of us, we struggle with understanding the math that our children are bringing home.

On Wednesday February 13th at 6:30pm in the library, Parent Council will be hosting a workshop with Blayne Primeau who will help explain to us how our children are learning math and will give us some tools and resources that we will be able to take with us and use at home.  Please see the attached flyer for details.

For those of you who require daycare services to be able to attend this event, we will have them available at no cost to you, BUT YOU MUST sign up in advance to use this service. Your child must also be able to use the toilet independently to use these daycare services.

As you may have heard, the Remind App has changed a few things about how we use their app.  One being that it will no longer be a free service.  We are working very hard to setup a substitute means of communicating with the MVPS community, but it is not yet ready.  Please keep reading these CASL emails for more information as it becomes available.  If you need to reach Parent Council members, you can always email us at

Our next Parent Council meeting will be held Wednesday February 20th at 6:30pm for anyone who would like to attend.  We always welcome new members.

Thank you and hoping everyone has a great week!
