Monday Message – Week of February 4, 2019

Posted February 5, 2019

Winter Walk to School – Wednesday, February 6, 2019 is Winter Walk to School Day. Mrs. Taylor’s Grade 1/2 class has created a video to promote this wonderful, active initiative. I’ll also be be participating and leaving my car at home – with an obligatory detour to my favourite downtown coffee shop first. 🙂  We encourage everyone who can do so safely to participate!

Read4Success – Read4Success is a 3-week program for parents and students in Grade 4-6. It is aimed at students struggling slightly in reading and are approaching grade level (C / C+ in Reading). It is designed to increase a student’s ability to understand, reflect on and learn from text. Parents and students are actively engaged in the reading process over the course of the 3-week program. Spaces are limited. If interested, please see the attached flyer and email Mrs. Oakes-Martin at [email protected] before Friday, February 8th.

News from School Council

Hello MVPS Community,

Parent council has a few initiatives on the go currently that we would like to update you about.

1 – Remind App: We are still in the process of trying to setup a new system to replace the Remind App.  Should anyone wish to reach parent council while in transition, please feel free to email us at [email protected].

2 – There will be a Laura Secord Chocolate sale day.  On Tuesday February 12th, parent council will be in the front foyer during second nutrition break selling chocolate bars.  This is a great opportunity to stock up on chocolate right before Valentine’s day!  Bars are $3 each.

3 – Letters have gone home with students who still have outstanding chocolate, if you could please get your chocolate or the money back into the office before Friday February 8th, we would greatly appreciate it.

4 – Blayne Primeau event: MVPS parent council is hosting a workshop to help parents understand how their children are learning math.  Blayne Primeau will be the instructor for the evening.  We highly encourage all MVPS parents & guardians to attend this workshop in order to learn tools that will help your children succeed at school.  Parent council will be providing daycare services for anyone who requires them in order to attend.  We ask that ALL attendees please sign up for the event so that we know how many to expect. Also, there is a link inside the sign up sheet to also register for daycare services for those who need it.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Sign up here:

On behalf of all of parent council, we hope everyone has a great week!
