Monday message – week of February 11th

Buses cancelled & school/system closure – Winter isn’t done with us yet. You should have received a message earlier today from our Communication Department regarding another potential winter storm coming.

It is always a good idea to make it part of your morning routine in the winter, especially during questionable weather, to check the Board’s website. School closures will be posted in a bright colour directly at the top of the page once confirmed. This is usually done by 6:00 a.m.

Information about bus cancelations can be found by clicking the yellow school bus icon in the upper left hand corner of the UGDSB web page. This is typically posted shortly after 6:30 am.

In the past, when the school/system has been closed to all students & staff, we have posted this information on our school’s Facebook and Twitter feeds, sent an email via this email service and placed physical signs at all school entrances. Nonetheless, circumstances could occur, such as a power outage, that would prevent us as a school from posting. The Student Transportation Services and the UGDSB are your best sources of information.

And our students didn’t let the last winter storm stop them. They have designated this coming Wednesday, February 13th as Winter Walk to School Day as a replacement for last Wednesday, when our schools were closed. If it’s safe to do so, I plan on making my way in on foot. Hopefully, your child can too! What a great way to stay active!

A reminder that Monday, February 18th is the Family Day Holiday in Ontario. School is closed.

And Spring is only a little more than 5 weeks away.

Message from School Council

Hello MVPS Community,

Here are this week’s updates from Parent Council:

Thank you to everyone who ate at Deja Vu Diner a few weekends ago. Together the community raise $260.80 for MVPS!

This Wednesday is the Blayne Primeau workshop. This workshop will give you the tools necessary to understand how your children are learning math (which is very different from how we learned it back in the day!). See attached flyer for more details. To register click here:

This Tuesday (tomorrow) is Laura Secord day. Parent Council will be in the front foyer at second break. Students can purchase a chocolate bar for $3 if they want. Just in time for Valentine’s Day 🙂

Wednesday February 20th is our next Parent Council meeting at 6:30pm in the learning commons. It is always nice to see some new faces at the meeting and everyone is welcome to attend.

That’s all from us this week. Hope to see everyone at the Blayne Primeau workshop. Have a great week!

Stephany (Chair) & Cathy (Vice-Chair)
