Monday Message – Week of June 24, 2019

Posted June 24, 2019

I’ve heard that time seems to go faster with age. That has to be the explanation. This year has absolutely flown by.

If you’re thinking about what we’ve accomplished besides a year of learning, here are some of the highlights, all due to the hard and ‘above and beyond’ work of our staff.

Of course, I’ll apologize now since I’m sure I’m going to miss something. We started out in our 3rd week with our Open House / Meet the Teacher evening, which was a great opportunity to meet new families and reconnect with our returning ones. From there? …. Some of our sporting adventures included cross-country running, volleyball, our staff-student hockey game, skating, swimming, basketball, and track & field. Not a sports fan? Then maybe you took part in the Skills Canada competition, Maker Space, or our 3D Printing Club. Fancied the Arts? Then hopefully you participated in Music Monday, Drama Club, Bucket Drumming or the choir. Preferred to delve into student leadership? Then our Mentors, the Rainbow Conference or any variety of helper from office to lunchroom might have suited you better. Learning opportunities outside of the classroom? Our students experienced everything from Olympia Sports Camp to 4 days in Quebec City; from the Medieval Times to Earthkeepers, from Grand Pals to The Village Café to our Board’s Digital Saturday. Looking to help others? Then hopefully you helped us help out The Terry Fox Foundation, the Orangeville Food Bank, Food and Friends and Hats on Dufferin. These were but a few of the initiatives that gained our support.

Our Live Free Campaign and Breakfast raised over $3500 and received both “Most Improved in Dufferin County” and “The Spirit of Dufferin” awards!

All of this happens on top of the classroom learning that goes on every day. None of this happens without the extra time and dedication of our staff, the support and hard work of our School Council and the time and effort put in by our numerous parent and community volunteers. A HUGE thank you to all of you for making Montgomery Village P.S. a wonderful place to learn.

Speaking of our School Council, they were once again extremely supportive of programs here at MVPS. They provided funds of $11.00 per student to each teacher to support a variety of classroom initiatives, brought Scientists in the Classrooms into each classroom, supported our Learning Commons and classes with technology, funded bussing and field trips as well as many additional teacher requests throughout the year. They work tirelessly for the benefit of our school community. We are extremely grateful!!

On behalf of our entire staff, I wish you a wonderful summer as we put an end to this school year this Thursday. Whether you are renewing your learning journey here in September or moving on, please accept our well wishes and good luck.

And on a personal note, I wish I could thank each and every one of you personally for the warm wishes and kindness you’ve extended over the course of this year. This school community is 2nd to none. The staff, students and greater community are why MVPS is a wonderful place!

All the best,

P. LeBlanc
Principal

Update to staff – In our Monday Message on June 3, we provided you an update of staff leaving Montgomery Village at the end of this school year.

I would like to add that Ms. D. Parks has been ‘re-hired’ and placed here in a 0.2 (1 day per week) contract position for September. We welcome her ‘back’ to the MVPS fold!

Attendance – We continue with regular schooling this week but we realize that family plans, vacations, etc… may result in your child being absent from school for one or several days. Please continue to call us to report your child’s absence. Our attendance line is 519-940-3002 x222. Otherwise, our office coordinator is required by our safe arrivals program to make every attempt to contact you directly. This can be extremely time consuming at this time of the year.

Change in registration – If your child(ren) will NOT be attending Montgomery Village Public School in September, please call us at 519-940-3002 ASAP and let us know, if you haven’t done so already. The office will also be open on Wednesday, August 28th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. for new student registration.

Eco-School – Once again, Montgomery Village P.S. has remained an Eco-School! As a matter of fact, 100% of Upper Grand elementary schools are Eco-schools for the 2nd year in a row!!

Library books – Please take a good look around your home for any library books that might still be in your child’s possession and return them to the school ASAP.

Medication – If your child has medication stored at the school, please pick it up by Thursday, June 27th. Any medication left over will need to be disposed of.

Lost and Found – We still have a substantial amount of lost and found items. They are in the Lost and Found boxes outside of room 119 and 113. Please come and have a look. All unclaimed items will be donated.

Unsubscribe – If you no longer have children at MVPS after this year, please help us manage our database and your inbox and unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of this email. Feel free to stay up-to-date by visiting our website at www.ugdsb.on.ca/montgomery

Have a fabulous summer!
