Summer News

July 2, 2019

Dear Norwell Students and Parent/Guardian;

I hope you all have a fantastic summer! On behalf of the Norwell staff I want to thank you for working with our school over the past year. Our hope is that together we can continue to build a program that is engaging and helps our students to understand and appreciate their role with the community, our country, and the global village. We look forward to September and another fantastic and rewarding school year! When you return you will find that our Main office has been renovated and much of the school electricals have been upgraded in order to meet our commitment to continue to be an ECO gold school.

If you are a student entering grade 9 – welcome to an excellent school! My hope is that you will join our inclusive culture and find a way to participate in building a positive climate for learning. I hope you join us on our late bus Wednesdays, join our school clubs, and find the time to join in Norwell’s extra-curricular programs. Participation is the key to enhancing your time at Norwell. LINK Day for grade 9 students is: Wednesday August 28, 2019. Details will be on our webpage and tweeted out in August.  I hope you plan to attend.

Early Registration for all other students takes place between 9am-12pm on: Thursday August 29, 2019. If you are a student entering into grade 10-12+ please plan to attend, pick up your timetable and pay your student fee.

I would like to take this time to wish the following staff a fond farewell from Norwell and a positive start on their new paths into the future. EAs Ms. Esseltine and Mrs. Spaling were a smiling face in the morning at the breakfast program and a helping hand in the classroom. Ms. Bartlett played an extremely important role in our English department and in our alternative educational program second semester. Thank you for a job well done.  Ms. Jones has worked in our Partners and ESL programs for the past three years and is moving to CWDSS to be closer to home. Ms. Jones has been dedicated in building an excellent and inclusive program and school.  Her leadership will be missed at Norwell. Teaching assistant Mr. Emslie, assistant to V.P. Mrs. Bramhill, teacher Mr. Talbot and Vice Principal Ms. Arbuckle are all retiring and heading into a new stage of life. Congratulations to you all, and thank you for giving our students the attention and support you all have over your collective careers.

Norwell’s next parent council meeting is September 17th – 6:30pm in the Library. All are welcome! We will be discussing how to apply for post-secondary programs. Join us as we review the best way to build a positive pathway after your time at Norwell.

Norwell is a fantastic school because of you! We ask that you review our attendance policy and code of conduct to ensure that all feel safe in our school and are able to attain academic success.

One final departure…after five years as the Principal, and two as the Vice Principal at Norwell DSS my time at this great school has come to an end. Norwell has been a very special place for me. I owe the community, students, and staff a great deal of thanks for all that you have taught me, both professionally and personally. Lifelong learning is a phrase that we use a great deal in the business of education, we encourage our students to participate in their learning, and to reflect and grow from all of their experiences.  Norwell has offered me this powerful lesson and more. Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the history of this great building. I am proud to be a “lifelong student” and “graduate” of such an outstanding community and school.

On behalf of Norwell I welcome our new Norwell Principal, Mr. F. Noventa to our community. He is an experienced Principal and will be a great addition to the team.
