The Core – CAS
CAS @ GCVI
Creativity, activity, service (CAS) is one of the three essential elements that every student must complete as part of the Diploma Programme (DP). Studied throughout the Diploma Programme, CAS involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies. All Year 1 and 2 students are involved in CAS which is ongoing throughout the Diploma Programme. Students are assigned CAS advisors to help them along the way.
Coordinator: Ms. Angela Snell
Featured CAS Projects:

Creativity
In the spring of 2020 Sage Salfi created a mural of Malala, Emma Gonzalez, and DeRay Mckesson. She selected these individuals as they are all advocates of safe and equal education. Sage is currently studying health sciences at Western University. Although she was not studying art in the IB Diploma Programme, she channelled her love of art into her CAS project.
Activity and Service
IB Year 2 Diploma Students Astrid Bradshaw, Jasmine Hasmatali and OSSD student Trevor Keough with the help of GCs athletic council planned and executed an incredibly successful Relay for Life. Not only did they build community and spirit at GC but they raised 43,000 for cancer research.
Astrid is currently studying Cellular, Anatomical, and Physiological Sciences at the University of British Columbia and Jasmine is studying global development with a minor in politics and a certificate in law at Queens University.
Service and Activity: Coldest Night of the Year
Service Learning Trip: Cambodia
Please see Ms. Snell in the International Office (room 50) for all CAS related questions. Appointments can also be made.
