Playaways & Wonderbooks

A Playaway is a pre-loaded audiobook that does not require downloads or internet connectivity. The physical device is roughly the size of an iPod or MP3 player and allows students to take the books they’re reading wherever they go. A Wonderbook is a hybrid resource - a full text book with a Playaway-style audiobook built right in. This allows students to follow along while listening to the text read aloud. There is also a Learning Mode with Wonderbooks that provides further extensions for literacy skills development.

Borrowing Playaways & Wonderbooks

Staff can borrow Playaways and Wonderbooks by visiting in person or requesting a reserve online. Items can be kept for two weeks and may be renewed up to a maximum of two times (unless otherwise indicated).

To see a list of the items you have borrowed, renew an item, request a reserve, and more, log into your Insignia account online.

Tips for searching in Insignia

When you access Insignia, make sure that Terry James Resource Library is selected from the drop-down menu.

To see only the Playaways and Wonderbooks available at TJRC (i.e., not teacher resources or picture books), check beside Audio under Collection area and click the circling arrow. If you don't see the Audio option, click the + icon to expand the list.
