Showing Films & Movies

Fair dealing allows schools to show films and movies without purchasing a license but only if:

  1. The film or movie is being used for educational purposes, and

  2. The copy of the film or movie was obtained legally.

Note: Showing a film or movie using a streaming platform (i.e., Netflix, Disney+) is only legal if the terms of agreement for the subscription do not limit it to personal or household use.

"If you are using an audiovisual or sound recording found on the Internet, you may show it in class only if you reasonably think that the copyright holder permitted its use on-line."
