GUELPH, Ontario – Kindergarten registration for the Upper Grand District School Board starts this week. Registration for new UGDSB Junior Kindergarten (JK) and Senior Kindergarten (SK) students for September 2021 will take place between January 5-22, 2021.

If you have a child who was born in 2017, they may attend JK in the 2021-22 school year. If you have a child who was born in 2016, they may attend SK in the 2021-2022 school year.

The UGDSB offers full day instruction for kindergarten students. As a parent/guardian you have the option of enrolling your child in the English program or applying for the French Immersion (FI) Program. The FI and English programs share the same Ministry Kindergarten Program and expectations.

French Immersion:

Please note that each UGDSB elementary school that offers FI has a Junior Kindergarten enrolment cap. JK is the only entry point for French Immersion in Upper Grand. Entry into FI from other jurisdictions is possible if your child has previous FI experience. Check with the school for more details.

To learn more about the FI cap, entry point and random selection process, visit www.ugdsb.ca/jkfi

How do I register my child for the 2021-2022 school year?

The process for Kindergarten registration is fully online this year. Parents and guardians are required to pre-register their child online. Once pre-registered, parents and guardians are asked to contact their child’s home school to make a virtual appointment to verify documentation. Registering online can be done at www.ugdsb.ca/kindergarten, between January 5-22.

Required documentation needed for verification:

  • Proof of Age (Birth Certificate, Birth Registration Form, Baptismal Certificate, Canadian Citizenship/Permanent Resident Card, Passport, & custodial documents (if applicable))
  • Proof of Address (e.g. utility/tax bill, purchase/lease agreement, phone (landline)/cable/internet bill. A driver’s license, bank/credit card statements or cell phone bills are not accepted.)
  • Verification of date of arrival/immigration documents (if child was not born in Canada)
  • Immunization Records do not need to be shared with the school. Please submit directly to Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health.

If you have any difficulty completing the online pre-registration, please contact your school.  If you would like to have an interpreter or translator assist you, please contact the school or Immigrant Services at (519) 836-2222. School attendance areas and school contact information can be accessed through the board’s school locator.

Please note, currently all registrations for the 2021-2022 school year are for in-person learning. At this time, we do not know whether or not an option for remote learning will be available, but it is important that parents register their children early in order to best project staffing needs for September 2021. Should an option be made available for remote learning, information will be communicated to parents/guardians through the board and school websites.
