Principal’s Message – September 8, 2017
Welcome back to everyone! We have had an exciting week coming together and getting to know each other. Our school has blossomed to a community of 465 students. Students were excited to meet old friends and make new ones. Whether students were at Primrose last year or new to the building this year, we are all Primrose!
Primrose is a place where we want students to be actively involved. We thank the 32 junior and intermediate students who volunteered to be bus patrollers, helping our kindergarten and grade one students get safely to their school busses. We thank these students for stepping up and showing such a sense of community.
Our grade 6, 7 and 8s participated in an amazing Spirit Week. They worked collaboratively on a number of fun activities that built upon their leadership schools. The week wrapped up with a terrific walk to the Pinnacle. We look forward to the leadership we know that they will show throughout this year.
Primrose is a Platinum EcoSchool. We focus on teaching children to be good global citizens and to be aware of their own environmental footprint. This Fall students will be talking to students about packing litterless lunches and correctly sorting the waste in the proper containers (e.g., compost, recycling or garbage.) Students have an opportunity to become members of our school’s Eco Team. Listen to announcements to learn about meetings.
One thing that we offer in our community is the Local Food Bag Program. Offered by Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance, the food bags are delivered at the end of the month and highlight food grown by local farmers. To sign up for the program visit http://hffa.ca/farmtoschool/local-food-club/
Just a reminder that student agendas are available for purchase through School Cash Online for $6.00. If you have already ordered them, they were distributed today.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our Meet the Teacher BBQ on Thursday, September 21. Food is available from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Teachers will be in classrooms from 5:30 to 7:00pm so that your child can introduce you and show you where they will be learning this year. We understand there was a glitch with the School Cash Online where food for the event can be ordered. That glitch is now fixed.
Next Week’s Happenings:
Monday – The grade eights are heading to Island Lake for Water Day. Don’t forgot to send in the permission form and pay at School Cash Online.
Monday – Tryouts for the Junior Soccer Team – Grade 5 and 6
Later in the week – Tryouts for the Intermediate Soccer Team – Grades 7 and 8
Wednesday – Is Character Day! Different classes will be doing a number of activities to highlight positive character traits.
All next week Ms. Federico and I will be visiting with classes at the new Outdoor Classroom (which is a work in progress) to talk about goal setting and to review behaviour expectations.
