Principal’s Message – February 1, 2020
Welcome to Black History Month. This month we will be focusing on the contributions and history of influential Canadians whose lives have helped shape our country. Each day on the announcements students will learn a little more about Canadians of African Descent. We have some wonderful presentations planned for later in the month. Check out our daily Tweets to learn more.
Speaking of Twitter…did you know that we try daily to tweet out things that are happening in the school. We highlight all the great learning that students are doing. Follow us on @PrimroseES1.
We continue to be committed to reducing our environmental footprint and fostering the values of being an EcoSchool. On Friday is National Sweater Day. We will be turning down the heat in the building and wearing our toasty sweaters. Turning down our thermostats one or two degrees can help reduce fossil fuel consumption.
As you know job action continues as the unions representing our teachers, EAs, ECES and office staff continue their negotiations with the province. As part of the job action teachers in Upper Grand will be involved in a one-day strike on Tuesday of this week. The school will be closed to students. On Thursday, all 83 000 teachers in Ontario will be involved in a one day strike. Again the school will be closed to students. We are hopeful that current negotiations are going well. Please visit www.ugdsb.ca/labour for the most up-to-date information about what is happening in our area.
