Principal’s Message – March 14, 2021

Thank You

I would like to thank our staff, students and families for being so supportive and understanding over the last few weeks.  It has been a very unpredictable few weeks with bus routes cancelled and COVID cases.  It was incredible to see our community work together to get through these difficult situations.

Please remember to complete the  Self-Screen on your children each morning before school.  Should your child have a symptom Public Health requires all siblings to remain home also.  The attached form from Public Health needs to be signed and returned with your child when they are returning if sent home.  We appreciate how supportive families have been as we work to look after the health and safety of all students, families and staff. Yards

The yards are now divided into class sections on the tarmac, as well as, the field.  Your child will be remaining with only their class when out for recess.  This ensures that each class remains with their cohort in and out of the classroom.  The School Council has generously bought play equipment for each class to use which must remain with their class. We will be staying off the fields for the time being to allow them to thaw and to avoid wet and muddy feet and clothes.  We encourage boots to be worn outside and extra socks.

Child Abuse Program:

Yearly, teachers are to deliver the Child Abuse Prevention Programs. In previous years only certain grades delivered these programs. The content is typically delivered in the spring of the year. Last spring, we were in lockdown and the Board made the decision that presenting these programs online was not in the best interest of the students and NO ONE delivered the programs. This year the Board has decided that every grade will receive Child Abuse Prevention Program to make up for those who didn’t receive the content last year.  Your child’s teacher will be delivering this program the week of March 22 or March 29.
The following personal safety programs that will be taught are:

Be Safe (Grades 1,2,3, 4). Kids in the Know (Grade 5,6) and It Is Not Your Fault (Grade 7, 8).  A letter will come home this week about the programs.

International Women’s Day – info about signs on school sites

As part of recognizing International Women’s Day, Family Transition Place featured a “Phenomenal Women” event and Upper Grand ETFO helped sponsor this event. Part of the campaign included distributing lawn signs that read “Phenomenal Women Work Here”.  Given that Dufferin County is FTP’s service area, our local ETFO distributed and posted “Phenomenal Women Work Here” signs at all Dufferin elementary and secondary school locations to recognize this week.  A Sign is located at the front entrance of the school.

Breakfast/Snack Program

The Breakfast/Snack Program has started up again. Everything must still be packaged and continue as a ‘Grab and Go’ format.  We will be using cooler bags which will be delivered to classrooms every morning before classes begin.  Students may access food as the day begins  and during breaks. It is still important for students to eat their lunch that parents have taken time to prepare.  We do have boomerang lunches so you will be able to see what your child has accessed from the program.  Our motto at Primrose is ”We feed every child”.

School Council Meeting

Our next school council meeting will be this Tuesday March 16th @ 6:30 pm.  There will be a link on the school website just prior to our meeting.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Dufferin Parent Support Network

DPSN has some parent workshops coming this month. Workshop topics include picky eaters, staying connected with your teen/tween, and supporting teens/tweens through tough times. We’re working on our spring lineup–stay tuned for more workshops soon.
