Principal’s Message – December 10, 2021

Posted December 13, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to thank everyone for their continued support during these last few weeks.  It has been a very stressful time for staff, students and parents.  I would like to reassure everyone that our building is safe and that thorough cleaning and disinfecting continues to happen everyday.

Distribution of Rapid Antigen Tests

To promote a safer return to the classroom after the winter break, the province is able to provide take-home rapid antigen screening kits to every child who attends a publicly funded school in Ontario.  Rapid antigen tests will be going home with each student on Monday December 13th. This is to ensure all students receive tests prior to the break.  Each student will be receiving a green rapid antigen test box with 5 test kits in it and letter explaining how to use them.

Parents whose children are away will be able to pick up their child’s kit on Tuesday at the school from 9 – 5 pm. If you are unable to come at that time please email Mrs. Millsap at [email protected] or Mrs. Hopkins at [email protected].
Please note, your child’s participation in this rapid antigen screening is voluntary. For additional instructions please click the link below.

Chromebooks Returned

If your child received a Chromebook from the school in order to do online learning could you please return it by the end of the day December 17th.  This will allow us to get them cleaned and back into classrooms for the new year.  If you need to make other arrangements please email Mrs. Millsap at [email protected] or Mrs. Hopkins at [email protected]

Inclement Weather

BUS CANCELLATION DAYS – ELEMENTARY

Parents are strongly encouraged to sign up for STWDSTS notifications of bus route delays and cancellations through the STWDSTS website:https://stwdsts.ca/bus-subscription/

Primrose Elementary School will remain open for all students who can get here safely when buses are cancelled due to inclement weather. If you drive your child to school you are responsible for picking up your child.  If the buses do not run in the morning they will not run in the afternoon.  On the rare occasions when schools and board sites are closed to staff and students known as a “System Shutdown”, all students will pivot to remote learning for the day and will be supported by their teacher. This may include teachers posting activities to Google Classroom, which can be accessed by students, or engaging in some synchronous learning activities.

Grade 8 Parents’ Information Session

We have already been discussing and preparing courses for grade 9 with our grade 7/8/9 guidance counselor, Mrs. Burton. So far, she has made one visit to our classrooms and we’ve done some activities together. She has them posted in her own google classroom called Grade 8 Guidance, where all grade 8’s are included. Centre Dufferin District Highschool guidance counsellor, Julie Sinese, will be sending some paper info to share with Grade 8s and their families prior to the winter break. The Grade 8 Parent Info Night is scheduled for Thursday January 13th. It will be a pre-recorded virtual event that will be posted on our website at noon that day https://www.ugdsb.ca/cddhs/.  As many of you may know, grade 9 will be de-streamed in Ontario next fall. This means that students will not choose between Applied and Academic courses until grade 10. Your child will only need to choose his/her 2 optional credits, unless they have modifications on an IEP (Individual Education Plan). Ms. Sinese will be meeting with our students in person to answer questions about grade 9.

School Council

Thank you for supporting our poinsettia fundraising efforts this past month, it is greatly appreciated. We are very excited to announce the return of hot lunches in the New Year.  Please keep an eye on our school cash online for more information on placing orders for these items. Our next Parent Council Meeting will be held virtually on December 15th at 6:30 pm. The link will be posted on the afternoon of the 15th on the school website. Please see the attached School Council agenda for the upcoming meeting  School Council Agenda December 15th 2021.pdf.

From the Library Learning Commons

We are asking that Library books be returned before the holidays. Students will receive notes to remind them which books need to come back. There will be a plastic bin at the front of the school for families to drop off books if their children are not back in school before the holidays.

Thank you!

Ms. Anderson
