PMPS Weekly Update December 15th

Posted December 15, 2022

Good afternoon Mustang Families,

It’s been another good week here at PMPS. Our students are starting to get excited for the upcoming holidays. Our staff are striving to keep routines as consistent as possible as we continue to learn right up to the holidays. Please note the last day of school is Thursday, December 22nd.

Thank you to all of our families who have been able to contribute to the food drive. We are very proud of Ms. Smith and Ms. Lyons’ classes who have been leading our school in this initiative. The announcements, posters, collecting and sorting have all inspired us to give back this holiday season.

We are thankful for all of our student leaders. From pizza days, milk and popcorn sales, the craft fair, our daily announcements, our outdoor sign, office helping… our students do it all and we are appreciative of their leadership and service.

Our Twitter account is full of updates, please check it out: @margaret_ps . I update our website regularly as well: www.ugdsb.ca/PrincessMargaret/

Important Dates & Reminders: Upcoming Spirit Days:

December 16 Holiday Accessories Day

December 19 Holiday Sweater Day

December 20 Holiday Character Day

December 21 Blue, White, and Silver Day (Hanukkah)

December 22 Red, Black, and Green Day (Kwanzaa) & Last Day Assembly for students only

This year, our assembly is open to students only, to help us transition back to full school assemblies (it’s been a while since we have all gathered together). Thank you for your understanding.

****A reminder there is no pizza day next week.

December 22nd: The last day of school before the winter holiday break. The 23rd, there is no school for students.

January 9th: The First day back to school after the holiday break

No Bus Days: We Are Open for Learning! A reminder that on no bus days, we are here for learning. A very small percentage of our students are bussed, so teachers carry on with a normal learning day. Our school is open for all who can safely make it here. If your child (ren) will not be attending school, you need to call in their absence please. This helps Mrs. Mckenize with her safe arrival procedures in a timely manner. Thank you for your help with this.

Food Drive: A note from our grade 4/5s & grade 5/6s:

Hello P.M.P.S. families,

We are starting a food drive. Did you know that 37% of clients served at the food bank are children? From December 12th to 20th we are hosting a food drive for the Orangeville food bank. We are asking you to bring non-perishable food items such as pasta, cereal & oatmeal. Students can bring non-perishable food items to be picked up in their classroom. Let’s go Mustangs!

Updated Screening Tool:

The School and Child Care Screening Tool has been updated to align with recent recommendations from the Chief Medical Officer of Health. The link to the tool is above and can be found on Public Health’s website. Families and staff are encouraged to self screening before coming to work/school each day.

Milk Sales: Our wonderful Student Council continues to sell milk this week and next, until we run out. We do not want an inventory over the holidays, so we will run out early next week. The milk costs $1.00 each. Milk sale profits support our Student Council.

ABSENCE TRACKING

Our new fully automated student absence tracker is available and live on the board’s website.  To view immediate trends on daily absence rates please click on the link below.    This information is publicly available and will help parents be informed about the impact of illness across the system on student attendance. https://www.ugdsb.ca/board/daily-school-absence-reporting/

Kindergarten Registration: It’s almost that time of the year, kindergarten registration! Please be sure to register younger children and share this information freely with neighbours and relatives. Thanks in advance. Kindergarten Registration Flyer 2023 24

WOW Butter/ Peanut Butter Substitutes: Please do not send in peanut butter or peanut butter substitutes in your child’s lunch. We have a number of life threatening peanut and nut allergies, and these products create worry with staff and students, as they are hard to tell apart. Thank you for your cooperation.

Take care. See you tomorrow for another day of learning.
