PMPS Weekly Update March 2nd, 2023

Posted March 2, 2023

Good evening Mustang Families,

We want to remind everyone that tomorrow is a PD Day. There is no school for students. Teachers will be participating in math, mental health, and equity professional development. We will see everyone back for learning on Monday, March 6th.

It’s been another great week at Princess Margaret PS. Did you hear that our 30 Days of Kindness Challenge has started? The first challenge was to tell three people why you think they are awesome. We are hopeful that you’ll start to see some kind acts at home as well. Thank you for your support for our Live Free campaign. So far, we have raised $175.00. We have so many ways for your child(ren) to get involved here at PMPS. Today’s clubs alone included: GSA, choir, junior basketball,  Forest of Reading, and jewelry making club. We are thankful for teachers who are facilitating these activities.

Our Twitter account is full of updates, please check it out: @margaret_ps. I update our website regularly as well: www.ugdsb.ca/PrincessMargaret/ . Please take a moment once and while and check out all of our great news!

Our lost and found has been organized and displayed in our front foyer. Students will be taking a look with their classes. Parents/ guardians are free to come in and take a look before and after school. All items that are not picked up by March 6th will be donated.

-March 3rd: PD Day for students (No School)

-March 6th: Next School Council Meeting (virtual 6pm)

-March 10th: PMPS Winter Play Day; Students will be outside participating in outdoor activities and sports. Please be dressed appropriately. Extra mitts and socks are a great idea.

SUPPORTING CAREGIVERS WITH MATH AT HOME

Caregivers have access to the UGDSB Games and Activities that Support Mathematical Thinking website. This website includes information about mindsets for math and the importance of math play, as well as games for Primary, Junior & Intermediate-aged children. This website can be found on the Parent Involvement Committee site.

Thank you and have great weekend. We’ll see everyone back on Monday, March 6th.

Andrea Papavasiliou, Principal

Notes from School Council Meeting – Monday, February 6th:

* Andrea provided a detailed Principal’s Report. I have a copy in my e-mail for anyone interested, please ask.

* UGDSB school council input request – we discussed the questionnaire and decided we will discuss and answer at the end of the next meeting (March 6th). Please take a look at the questions below and be ready to share your ideas! Thanks.

1) Please list your school improvement plan goals

2) List any focus which the School Council has identified for emphasis in this school year

3) Please describe any special needs that should be taken into consideration

4) Principal Qualities: List any special qualities that your school community would value in a leader

* We discussed the pizza and hanging basket fundraisers. Once we confirm timelines, we can solidify these plans at the meeting next week and get the balls rolling. We agreed to increase the number of baskets for sale to 150 this year (up from 100 last year). Ida has already met with the garden centre.

* We discussed and have since voted to donate $1800 from our funds raised to the Family Transition Place program, for junior and intermediate students, and also to give the intermediates $1000 for their trip this year.

* We discussed making a printed flyer for parents, highlighting important information with an aim to encourage participation in school programs and policies. Many things are being consistently missed, such as attendance on no-bus days, incident reporting, volunteering, etc.

* We agreed that members of Parent Council would apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check, to ensure the school has available volunteers as needed. Letters were made available to those who were interested. If you did not receive a letter and are interested, please let Andrea know.

Next meeting: Monday, March 6th at 6pm
