At the June 22, 2021, Board Meeting, two Upper Grand District School Board draft policies were released for public consultation.

Policy 205 – School Volunteers (new name)

The policy and procedures for school volunteers have been updated to provide greater clarity on the requirements for school volunteers, and the role of principals and staff in ensuring our students remain safe while school volunteers are present.

Policy 508 – Educational Field Trips and Off-Site Activities (new name)

The policy and procedures for educational field trips and off-site activities have been updated to provide greater clarity on the requirements for planning field trips, and the role of principals and staff in ensuring field trips happen equitably and safely. Note that due to Covid-19, there has been a moratorium placed on international trips and travel for the 2021-22 school year, and as such, there are no updated procedures for international trips at this time.

Both of these policies are important to students, parents, staff, school councils, and community members; Policy 205 because school volunteers play an important role in maintaining a positive school climate by allowing many aspects of a school’s programming, both curricular and extra-curricular, to continue operating efficiently; Policy 508 because many aspects of a school’s programming involve field trips.
