Dear parents and caregivers,

In preparation of the province’s next phase of reopening, we have been meeting with Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health to review the protocols currently in place in schools.

Please see the following updates:

Changes to Outdoor Masking Protocols

Students can continue to have mask breaks outdoors during recess and lunch breaks. Additional outdoor learning opportunities are also encouraged to continue. Physical distancing outdoors will still be encouraged.

Additionally, as announced earlier this week, masking is no longer required during:

  • Outdoor clubs, sport teams, bands and extracurricular activities
  • Outdoor health and physical education activities (high and low contact activities)
  • Outdoor inter-school sports (high and low contact activities)

Students continue to be required to wear properly fitted non-medical or cloth masks indoors in school, including in hallways and during classes, as well as on school vehicles.

As noted in the Ministry announcement on the reopening phases, masking will continue to be a requirement in our schools and community for the time-being.

Resumption of Extracurricular Activities and Updated Health and Physical Education Guidance

As announced earlier this week, we are pleased that the resumption of extracurricular activities and sports is now permitted. For details, please review the post on the board website: https://www.ugdsb.ca/blog/update-on-the-resumption-of-sports-and-extracurricular-activities/

COVID-19 Screening Tool

The province’s COVID-19 School Screening Tool has been updated recently.  Families should continue to incorporate screening as part of their daily routine before students leave for school.  The screening tool provides further guidance for individuals who have tested with a PCR test or RAT kit or who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Thank you for your continued support.
