Rickson Ridge PS students learn about acceptance through local author visit
GUELPH, Ontario – On April 4, 2023, students at Rickson Ridge Public School were treated to a book reading focusing on acceptance of others.
Grade 1 and 2 classes had the privilege of welcoming Kassandra Coleman, a local author from Fergus. Coleman is the author of two books, Art Brings Friends Together and The Pieces of Lola’s Heart.
The moral of the stories is to accept everyone for who they are regardless of the differences they may have. The characters in her books have various abilities and disabilities and aim to teach children to accept people as they are.
The students loved her story time and the colourful illustrations captured their attention throughout the reading. Some of the students went back to their classrooms and wrote what they thought the main message was.
