Student Arrival and Dismissal at Salem Public School

March, 2021

The safety of our students is incredibly important to all of us here at Salem PS. We continue to seek ways to make arrival and dismissal times safer. We have made some changes to the drop-off/pick-up for our students to ensure that students and parents can physically distance and be safe! Please review this information to help plan for dropping off and picking up. Walking and cycling to and from school continue to be important as not only are these great ways to be active and healthy but, they also help to alleviate some of the congestion during arrival and dismissal.

In consultation with the Township of Centre Wellington and the Wellington OPP we have devised a plan to make these busy times safer for our students and families. We appreciate you taking the time to ensure you have read about these changes and for following these rules and routines. Officers will be in the area to provide continued education – so please give them a warm Salem welcome and say hello when you see them.

Attached is an On Street Parking Map showing the suggested driving route for parking to drop off and pick up students as well as the areas that will be marked with no parking signs. Please note that there is no parking on either side of Woolwich Street and parking will be now limited to one side of Milford Cres. These are NEW parking restrictions. We ask parents to enter Millford from the East. Salem Public School On Street Parking

Please note the following important points:

The front driveway is for school bus use only. The parking lot (west of the school) is closed to parents from 8:40-9:00 and again from 3:20-3:30 to ensure our walker/pick up students are safe.

If you are parking to accompany your child to the school yard or you are picking-up by car, please park on Milford Cres, James St. or on a nearby public street where parking is permitted. If you travel to school by car, consider parking and ‘walk-a-block-or-two’ to help reduce traffic and congestion around our school.

If you are dropping off or picking up a Kindergarten age child please walk along the sidewalk in front of the school and cross at the safety crosswalk.

You can also help to improve traffic safety at our school by:

●  Driving slowly and giving pedestrians the right of way at all times.

●  Observing the traffic rules and only parking in designated parking areas.

●  Avoid stopping or parking anywhere in the driveways.

For information about the school bus service please visit www.stwdsts.ca

Please be aware of all traffic, walk with care, and stay safe. Thank you for your ongoing support with these practices and procedures.

Kind Regards,

Natasha Skerritt (Principal of Salem Public School)
