Posted June 17, 2020

Dear SIB families,

We hope this email finds you all well. There are a few important announcements as we get closer to the end of June. Also, a reminder to keep checking our website at https://www.ugdsb.ca/sibps/ for updates.

Staff changes for September 2020. Sadly, there will be a few familiar faces who won’t be at SIB in the fall.

Mrs. Terri Reeds our Special Education Resource Teacher has decided to retire after an amazing career helping students achieve their goals. Thank you for all you have done for SIB Mrs. Reeds and we wish you all the best in your retirement.

Mr. Steve Rane our Int. Science and Technology teacher extraordinaire has taken on a new teaching position at Willow Road PS. Thank you Mr. Rane for all your hard work at SIB.

Mrs. Laura Gendron (Int. Teacher) and Ms. Vanessa Moore (Grade 4/5) were both on a LTO assignment at SIB and will be leaving us at the end of the year. Thank you both!

All four teachers are important people who have done a lot for the students and community at SIB and we wish you all the best!

Our VP Mr. Walker is also leaving to take on a new VP position at Westwood PS. Please read a special note from Mr. Walker:

It has been an absolute pleasure and an honour to be a part of Sir Isaac Brock for these past 2 years. I have enjoyed working with the awesome students, staff, parents, guardians and families of this great school. This has been a great learning experience for me and I hope to take what I have learned with me to my new role. I will always remember to Show Respect, Include Others and Be Responsible and to continue to encourage students at my new school to do the same. I am excited for my new venture, but know that I will miss Sir Isaac Brock Public School and the people who make this such an incredible place!

We wish you all the best Mr. Walker!

Report cards will be mailed out to all students in kindergarten to grade 7 on June 23rd. If you require more than one copy (ie. parents live in separate homes) please notify your child’s teacher prior to the 23rd.

Grade 8 students and their parents are invited to come to the school on Tuesday, June 23rd between 9am and 5pm to pick up their report card, graduation certificate and a special token to honour their graduation from SIB!

Thank you to all of our families who have helped support student distance learning during our closure period.  We hope the use of the borrowed Chromebook has been helpful. We have had many requests from families wondering if they can keep the Chromebook over the summer to continue to support learning and help children stay engaged in their learning. The answer is yes! Feel free to keep the Chromebook you have for return to our school in September. For those moving to a new Upper Grand DSB school you may continue to use the same device you currently have and return to our school in the fall. If you choose to keep the Chromebook over the summer please remember to fully shut it down regularly to ensure it access updates over the summer when it is turned back on.

For those students moving to a new school board for the fall and for families who would prefer to return their Chromebooks over the summer please drop off at our school on Tuesday June 23rd from 9am to 3pm.

Please note: The last official day of school for this year is Friday June 26th.

The Heart and Stroke Virtual Jump is on June 19th!  Help us reach our goal of having 100,000 children being active! SIB is signed up and families if you are interested in participating please go to https://secure-support.heartandstroke.ca/site/SPageServer/?pagename=jump_home and register under SIB. Happy Jumping!

SIB will continue to communicate with families step by step with information as we move through to the end of the school year.

Stay a safe distance and stay positive!
