Dear SIB families,

Thanks to everyone for participating in the Crazy Hair Day last week, there was a lot of creativity on top of people’s heads! Here are this weeks important announcements:

#1 Parent Information: Monitoring and Managing COVID-19, this is an important reminder from Public Health about how we can all work together to help stop the spread. Click the link for information as there have been important updates since the last email was sent: https://www.ugdsb.ca/sibps/2020/09/18/parent-information-monitoring-and-managing-covid-19/

#3 Halloween at SIB (Thursday Oct 29th): COVID has really changed the way we can celebrate Halloween at school this year. Kindergarten Students are encouraged to wear orange and black on this day and parents can send in a picture of their child wearing their costume. Grade 1- 8 students can wear costumes; however they cannot use the restrooms to put on or apply makeup or to change into their costumes.  They are to wear their costume to school and to keep it on for the entire day. Therefore, we encourage simple costumes only. Please do not send costume accessories (especially replica weapons of any kind) or anything else that complicates the costume.  Students can also wear black and orange or just come in regular clothes. Students are still required to wear their COVID related face mask while inside the school.  Halloween masks are not considered a substitute. Sadly, this year, there will not be a costume parade or dance-a-thon.  Treats for class or sharing are also not permitted. Thank you for your understanding and support in making this halloween as safe as possible.

#4 Mark your Calendars: Friday October 30th is a PA Day and the school is closed for students.

#5 Dress for the weather: Teachers K to Gr 8 are taking their students outside as much as possible and to be ready for that we are asking that students come to school prepared to be outside. The weather has turned to fall and wet days are on their way, so please ensure that enough clothes are packed to get your child through the day. Also, we can now add a pair of dry indoor shoes to items brought to the school so no one has to have wet feet. So please feel free to pack an extra pair of shoes on those rainy days. Rain won’t stop us from having fun and learning outside!

#6 Masks, timing and social distancing on the tarmac: To help with social distancing protocols before and after school, we are asking that all students and parents/guardians please wear a mask when they enter the school grounds (tarmac area at the back of the school). We also encourage students to not arrive on the school grounds before 8:35am to help avoid unorganized large groupings. Parents/guardians we also need your help to please keep reminding your children about the importance of social distancing. We are at full student attendance and therefore we have many people in this area and this will help protect everyone.

#7 Absent or Late? If you know that your child(ren) will be absent or late please call the school 519-824-1442, as you can leave a message 24 hours a day. If you leave a message on our machine and you know that your child will be absent for longer than one day please leave those details as well so the office can be as accurate as possible. Thanks!

News regarding school is constantly being updated. SIB will continue to communicate with families step by step with information when it becomes available as we move through the school year. Please continue to check your email, twitter and our website https://www.ugdsb.ca/sibps/ daily for updates.

Stay a safe distance and stay positive!
