SIB Remains Remote + More Important Reminders June 7th

Posted June 7, 2021

Dear SIB families,

WOW it is hot, so keep staying cool Knights! Here are this week’s SIB announcements and reminders:

#1 SIB Classes will remain in Remote Learning for the remainder of this school year: On June 2, 2021, the provincial government announced that Ontario schools will remain in remote learning for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. This means that all UGDSB students will continue learning remotely for the rest of this school year, with the exception of those students currently attending specialized class placements in person. The last day of school will be Tuesday June 29th. #2 Report Cards for Term 2 will be distributed electronically this year: Due to COVID-19, the Upper Grand District School Board is preparing to make student report cards available online for parents/guardians this spring.

Parents will be able to access their child’s report card from a secure webpage, using a board-issued account. Elementary report cards will be available for download between June 23 and July 5, 2021. Secondary report cards will be available for download between July 5 and 16, 2021. Families who cannot access reports electronically are to contact their school to arrange for a mailed copy. Please note that IEPs will be mailed to families at the end of the school year.

#3 Grade 8 Graduation Photos: Attention Grade 8 Graduates and Parents/Guardians – We have been given the go ahead to have Grad Photos taken! Photos will be taken Wednesday June 9th starting at 3pm. Full details are available in the Grade 8’s Google Classrooms as well; emails with full details have been sent out to all parents. If you have any questions please contact the school office. NOTE: the date for Grade 8 Graduation and details of the event will be announced soon.

#4 A note about evaluation during remote learning: In June, your child will receive their report card for Term 2. You will see your child’s achievement for Term 1, and will see their achievement and comments for Term 2. Student work that has been completed and assessed during both in-class and remote learning will be factored into the final mark.

If students have not participated to a full extent in remote learning and teachers are not able to determine a grade for the report card due to insufficient evidence, you will see the letter ‘I’ and comments for Term 2. This does not mean that your child did not complete any work. It means that there has not been enough evidence gathered to accurately report a grade. For these students, teachers will reach out to families and provide additional information so that parents are aware, prior to receiving the June report card.

During these final weeks of learning for the 2020 – 2021 school year, please continue to reach out to your child’s teacher if you wish to discuss your child’s progress.
