Principal’s Message – October 2, 2021

Posted October 2, 2021

What a busy week we all have had!  Students participated in our Terry Fox Run and learned about his Marathon of Hope.  We talked about Truth and Reconciliation and the legacy of residential schools.  A few people had their pictures taken and our intermediates received their regularly scheduled vaccinations.  There was always something on the calendar!

On Tuesday we had our first School Council meeting of the school year.  Thank you to all of you who attended virtually.  Part of the evening was the election of our School Council executive. Congratulations to the following:

  • Co-Chair – Analia Peraza
  • Co-Chair – Lisa Lankhof
  • Treasurer – Tara Dean-Whitt
  • Secretary – Miranda O’Connor

Thank you to our outgoing executive members Cari Mistry, Bonnie Gerritts and Narius Mistry for your years of service to the school and for your willingness to mentor our new council.

Tuesday is World Teacher Day.  We are blessed at Spencer to have an excellent team of teachers who work so hard each and every day to support our students.  It has been an “interesting” few years of teaching.  Our teachers have been pivoting like ballerinas and have worked hard to look after the academic and emotional needs of kids in unprecedented times, often while balancing their own familie at home. I am so fortunate to work with this incredible team.

Wednesday is “International Walk to School Day”.  As we work to improve students’ physical fitness, mental well being and reduce our carbon footprint, walking or cycling to school benefits our bodies and our planet.  Consider leaving the car at home and walking to school on Wednesday.

A reminder that Picture Day – Take Two will be happening on October 7th.  Bring your best smiles.  If your child was absent last week when the kindergarten or grade one class got their pictures taken, we will make sure you get your picture in this round.

A reminder to all parents that the next weekend is the Thanksgiving weekend and the school will be closed on Monday, October 11th.

Dates to Remember:

  • Tuesday – World Teacher Day
  • Wednesday – Wear Green in Recognition of Cerebral Palsy
  • Wednesday – International Walk to School Day
  • Thursday – Picture Day – Take Two
