Principal’s Message – October 30, 2021

Posted October 30, 2021

The weather has certainly taken a turn as we now face the chilly, damp days of November.  Please remember to send your kids dressed for the weather.  We only come in early or have indoor recesses when it is pounding rain and not a light mist as we want the students to have a mask break, run around and play. Bringing warm rain gear makes for a happier recess.

This week we said “see you soon” to Mrs Picard/Mrs Loon.  As many of you know Mrs. Picard was at the Island Lake Outdoor Education Centre, prior to coming to Spencer.  When Covid hit, the centre was closed and Mrs. Picard came to us.  The Outdoor Ed Centre remains closed but Mrs. Picard has been asked to work with our Board’s Program Department to travel to different schools and deliver outdoor education programming in their yards.  We will miss seeing her at Spencer everyday but are so happy that she is able to have an impact across Dufferin by doing something she loves.  We are in the process of hiring her replacement.

November 1 to 7 is Treaty Recognition Week.  Classes will be discussing the treaties between Indigenous Peoples and settlers that govern these lands.  We will be discussing that treaties are promises and will be delving into those promises that were kept and that were not.

Mark your calendars. Picture retake day has been scheduled for November 22.

We would like to wish all our families that celebrate a very happy and prosperous Diwali on Thursday.
