Community Involvement – a graduation requirement
Beginning in September 1999, the Ministry of Education mandated that all students entering grade 9 must complete 40 hours of volunteer work before they graduate, under the careful supervision of parents and community sponsors.
Westside Secondary School students submit their completed community involvement hours through Hour Republic. This online tool, is available to students through their UG Cloud accounts. To access this program students should:
- log into their UG Cloud account
- from the dashboard, select the “Brightspace (d2l)” box
- select the Hour Republic icon on the far right of the screen
Students who have not yet registered on Hour Republic will need to do so on their first sign in.
Further instructions on how to access your account can found here: How to Access Hour Republic
Students who would like to use a paper tracker for the information they need to upload their hours to Hour Republic can do so using this simple document: Community Hours tracker
