Principal’s Update for October

Posted October 3, 2019

If your child was in grade 3 or 6 in the spring, you will recall they wrote EQAO which is a Provincial Assessment that focuses on Reading, Writing and Math.  The results are in and have been sent home with your child.  School results will be shared with School Council and posted to the School Council minutes page following our October meeting.   If you have questions about the data, please contact me at the school.

Beginning next week, our Grade 3 students will be writing the Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test.  It is a standardized test that is used to screen children for the Gifted Program.  A parent consent form was sent home with your child.  If you have concerns about your child writing the test, please connect with your child’s teacher.

Congratulations to our Intermediate Football and Cross Country teams who have represented Westwood already this fall at tournaments.  All the players had a great time and were excellent representatives of our school.  Next week our Junior Cross Country runners and Soccer teams are competing in tournaments .  Good luck and have fun!

Our Chocolate Bar Fundraiser will begin Monday October 7.  Students will be coming home on Monday with a box of Laura Secord Chocolate.  All money raised will go directly to the students.  With the fund raising, we are able to subsidize trips for students and allow for experiences in the school that the students love like Rope Climbing.  Please help us in raising money for the school.  If you are not wanting to participate but would like to make a donation, please indicate that on the form letter that came home with your child, and return it to the main office.

Have a wonderful month!  As always if you have questions, concerns, or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school.

Sincerely,

Tara Topping
