Principal’s Message for December

Posted December 3, 2019

Happy December families!  We have a busy month ahead for our students.  Mrs. Warnholtz has been preparing her classes for Thursday’s Holiday Performance.  It is sure to be an excellent show full of song and dance to showcase all of the Holiday Celebrations around the world.  This Thursday, December 5th will be our morning and evening performance.  Parents and family are welcome to attend the day performance if you are unavailable in the evening.  See the calendar posted on the website for show times.  There is a Scholastic Book Fair in the Library this week and it will be open on Thursday evening as well.  A great opportunity to purchase some gifts for the holidays!

This month we have a lot of guests to our school.  Our community police officers will be visiting our kindergarten and grade 1 students.  The concert band from GCVI will be coming to Westwood to perform for us and our community Indigenous Elders will be visiting the intermediate classrooms.

A reminder to Grade 8 parents that High School information nights for GCVI and College Heights are upcoming.  Please consider attending and asking questions.  Course selection forms for students will begin after the Christmas Break.

Thank you to all families who supported the School Council MacMillan’s Fundraiser. Your support raised $1500.00 for the school.  We will be purchasing chromebooks for classrooms with this money.  Orders can be picked up Thursday, December 5th from 3pm-6pm in the gym.  Due to the Holiday Concert, this month’s School Council meeting is cancelled.  Council will resume meetings the first Thursday of each month in January at 6:45pm in the Community Room.

We continue to have struggles with School Messenger.  If you have been trying to sign up and are not having luck, please contact me at the office.  At this point, teachers are using the agenda, sending notes and/or using google classroom to post things.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

Our final Wonderkids assembly for 2019 is Thursday, December 19.  We also have carol singing on Friday, December 20th .  All are welcome!

As always, if you have questions, concerns or comments, please contact me at the school.  Wishing you all the best for a wonderful Holiday Season with your family!

Sincerely,

Tara Topping
