Second COVID-19 outbreak declared over

March 11, 2021

I am pleased to report that the Associate Medical Officer of Health for Wellington Dufferin  Guelph Public Health has declared the COVID-19 situation over in one of our closed classrooms based on the Ministry of Health direction:

  • At least 14 days have passed with no evidence of ongoing transmission that could reasonably be related to exposures in the school; AND
  • There have been no further ill individuals associated with the initial exposed cohorts with tests pending.

There is currently no additional risk of COVID-19 transmission within the classroom beyond the general community risk of COVID-19.

While this particular situation is resolved, I would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that COVID-19 is circulating in the province and in communities. Daily self-screening is a critical step in helping to identify and restrict the spread of COVID-19 in the community.  Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms of COVID-19 and if they do exhibit symptoms, immediately isolate them from others and make an appointment with an assessment centre for testing. The screening tool can be found at: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/. Please use this tool every day before sending your child to school and on the bus.

I want to thank parents/guardians, staff and students, as well as Public Health, for their cooperation and care as we have worked together to communicate and keep everyone safe during this time.

Sincerely,

Tara Topping

Principal
