Course Selection Process for grade 8 students:
Guidance counsellors for WHSS and Arthur PS and Victoria Cross PS have discussed course offerings with current grade 8 students. Course Selection Sheets are due mid December. Grade 8 teachers will peruse the choices and consult students/parents. In January, students will finalize and enter their grade 9 course choices into the computer app MyBlueprint, available on each student’s UGCloud account.
For more information, please attend the Grade 8 Information Night for Parents & Students. The night will begin with a presentation followed by a self-guided interactive tour where students can meet the friendly WHSS staff and experience various class demonstrations, clubs and activities. (See the home page for a colour flyer and more information)
For grade 8 students who are not currently enrolled at a WHSS Feeder School (Arthur PS or Victoria Cross PS), course selection sheets can printed (see link below); picked up at Tech & Electives Day or at the Parent & Student Information Night or anytime at the front office. Please return the course selection form to the front office with your registration page (see Guidance – General) by January 15.
Course Selection Process for current WHSS students:
In December, each class will meet with the Guidance teachers to participate in a presentation regarding all courses offered by each department for the following school year. Counsellors will also outline any new courses; courses that are offered in alternating years and programs specific to certain grades such as CELP (grade 10s), Co-op (grade 11 & 12), Dual Credit (grade 12), SHSM (grade 11 & 12), etc..
Students will plan their course selections on MyBlueprint, a computer program accessible from home and school via each student’s personal UG Cloud account.
In December, January and early February – we encourage all WHSS students to discuss their high school plan and pathway choices with their semester one and semester two teachers, parents, siblings, family members, friends and guidance counsellors.
In February, students need to finalize their course selections for the following school year and hit SUBMIT on MyBlueprint. Paper copies of course selections for WHSS students will not be printed. We encourage all students and parents to work collaboratively on the MyBlueprint program to carefully plan and choose courses for all four years of high school.
It’s never too early to plan your courses for the upcoming years and to investigate post-secondary pathways such as:
- apprenticeships (http://www.earnwhileyoulearn.ca)
- college (https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/)
- universities (http://www.ontariouniversitiesinfo.ca/universities)
