SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS

The school council hosted a Night at the Storm Game Community Event on February 21. 155 tickets were sold and everyone enjoyed an hour of skating before attending the game. The students made banners and signs. There was lots of cheering and smiles as we all celebrated the Guelph Storm win over the London Knights. Everyone agreed that the evening was a success. We are already planning for next year’s event!

LIVE FREE DAY – March 6

Friday, March 6th is Help Kids Live Free from Hunger Day. We will be challenging students to give up something for one day that they may take for granted

Suggestions of Live Free promises: – Chocolate – Watching TV – The use of an arm for the day – Dessert – Talking – Cellphones – Computer / iPad time – Treats

After every student has decided what their Live Free Promise is we will provide them with a Promise Card to fill out and display the filled out cards in the school.

Students are requested to bring $2 to support the Live Free Campaign. Donations may also be made online through https://ugdsb.schoolcashonline.com/ Every dollar raised will be used to support the student nutrition program run at our school.

SPRING DRILLS
During the spring we will be conducting the following drills:
– 3 Fire Drills
– Severe Weather Drill
– Bomb Threat Drill
– Lockdown Drill

FROM THE LIBRARY LEARNING COMMONS

Thank you to all families who participated in February’s Book, Puzzle, and Board Game Swap! This event was a great success and lots of students (and teachers!) came away from the swap with some fun new books and games. We also raised just over $100 to use towards the Virtual Reality system recently acquired by our library. Our hope is that the VR will be a great learning opportunity for students throughout the school to explore “beyond the walls of the classroom.”

RECESS REMINDERS

As we move into the early spring season, our yard can become wet, icy and slippery. Staff sends reminders to children who like to ‘explore’ our puddles and mud of the need to stay away from these areas for both safety and cleanliness reasons. We will deem exceedingly muddy, icy and wet areas off limits to students. However, it is inevitable that some children will find mud and become wet and dirty. Please consider adding an extra pair of socks and pants to your child’s backpack. Put it into a plastic bag that can then be used for the muddy, wet clothes.

COATS’S CORNER – News from the Office

LATE FOR SCHOOL?

Starting on March 23, the Monday after March Break, students who are arriving late to school after the morning bell or after lunch, will need to come into the office, sign in and get a late slip to give to their teacher. This change will help us to keep better, more accurate track of students who arrive to school after attendance is taken.  Just a reminder that students who arrive to class after 8:35 are considered to be late.

PIZZA AND MILK

Pizza and milk is available on school cash online https://ugdsb.schoolcashonline.com/

Please note all orders must be done online as no order forms will be coming home. Orders must be in by Sunday, March 8th at midnight.

LATE ORDERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!

CLASS DISRUPTIONS

It is a goal not to disrupt learning that takes place in classrooms.  If parents are bringing in something for their child(ren), please bring these items to the office with their name and grade on it. These items will be distributed at recess breaks throughout the day.  Parents picking up students are asked to come to the office and wait for their children to meet them.

MOVING?

If you are moving please make sure to contact the office.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Thank you to those that have already completed registration for next year junior kindergarten students. You do NOT need to register for senior kindergarten. If you have or know of a child born in 2016 that lives in our area, please register online through https://www.ugdsb.ca/kindergarten/registration/
