October News 2020

Posted October 1, 2020

DownloadHere we are in the month of October and enjoying all the signs of Fall.  With classes enjoying outdoor learning there has been some beautiful conversation about the many beautiful trees on the school property and how grateful we all are for our beautiful outdoor spaces.

William C. Winegard Public School is a very special place. It is a community built on strong values of kindness, respect, citizenship and one that values education.  The Winegard team works hard to provide exceptional educational opportunities in a variety of learning environments. Academic programs are enriched because staff are motivated to bring the children the best in education.  Learning is furthered by the outdoor surroundings allowing learning to take place beyond the walls of the classroom and the school.

Success in learning is best achieved when there is a partnership between the school and the parent community.   It is our belief that students are more successful when we work together.  Through cooperation and collaboration, all students will develop respect and responsibility and will work towards meeting their educational goals.

We are always open to new ideas and welcome your input and suggestions.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school.

Communication between school and home continues to be very important.  We will use the school website and email as a means to share important school and board information.  As items come up, they will be posted in our News and Announcements section of the school website.  Our website and the school board’s website are both important links to have in your favourites to stay on top of what is going on at the school.  Please check them often at www.ugdsb.on.ca/winegard and https://www.ugdsb.ca/.  We will also be using the messenger phone call out and email system and twitter as a means to share information. There is a link on our website to follow us on Twitter (@williamcwinegardps).  Please consider downloading UGConnect from the App Store/Google Play.

Classroom teachers will be using Google Classroom and email to support home and school communication. Teachers will be providing specific details on this with you.

SCHOOL SCREENING TOOL

Please ensure you are accessing the Ministry online COVID-19 school screening tool everyday before school.  This tool can be used by parent(s)/guardian(s), students, and employees:

Please note Public Health is always a good next step for any concerns or questions.

DROP OFF AND PICKUP

Thank you to all our families for supporting the 1 parent/guardian on the playground and physical distancing on the school yard.  We do need to remind our families to please make your way off the school yard after drop off and pickup.

  • All students please make your way to your class line in the morning.  Please arrive closer to 8:30.  The school day will begin at 8:35am and end at 3:05pm.
  • If walking with a dog to school please ensure you stay on the sidewalk
  • Please only use the parking lot if absolutely necessary
  • The pickup and drop off lane in the parking lot is for picking up and dropping off.  Please do not leave your vehicle parked in the lane.
  • We encourage families to park on the streets surrounding the school and walk to the school if picking up or dropping off (Cityview, Breesegarden, and Kearney are good options)
  • Do not park or stop on Lee Street near the school

BOOMERANG LUNCHES

We are encouraging a Boomerang Lunch.  This means that all items (recyclable and garbage) will return home at the end of each day to be put in your home garbage or recycling containers.  Please ensure that your child has a water bottle to refill.

ACCESS TO SCHOOL

Only essential visitors are permitted inside the school (e.g., maintenance personnel).  All parents and visitors will not be permitted inside schools during the pandemic, except in case of emergency. At entry and dismissal times, parents are to remain outside the school and adhere to physical distancing protocols.

Virtual_open_house_0VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE

This year William C. Winegard will have a Virtual Open House on Thursday, October 8th – 5:00pm.  This will be accessible through your child(ren)’s google classrooms.  The slideshows provided will share some of the exciting things that are happening in the classroom, introduce you to the educators who work with your children and share how best to communicate with your child’s teacher(s).

SCHOOL COUNCIL

School Council meetings will be held virtually this school year.  A google meeting link will be sent to Parent Council participants a day or two prior to the meeting. Once all dates have been selected for the year we post on the school calendar.  Please note all are welcome!
