EJPS Week at a Glance (April 17-21)

Chers parents,

We had another great week filled with engaging learning. Our students are moving forward at a good pace in all areas of the curriculum and as a whole school we are working towards our school-wide STEM/Science Open House on May 3rd where each class will contribute to sharing their learning in creative ways around the intersection of scientific inquiry and environmental sustainability. Additionally, we will have other complementary events going on that evening in coordination with our School Council and parent volunteers. As the date approaches we will share more details.

In other news, we had an effective hold & secure and lockdown drill exercise today where our students and staff followed the procedures with great precision and in a timely manner. We learned about some areas of improvement and will continue to always look to do better. Also connected to safety is a letter attached Child Abuse Prevention Policy & Program 2023 EJ if your child is in Grade 1, 3, or 5 about the teacher led lessons on child abuse prevention.

Today, we had an engaging Ramadan presentation for some of our primary students facilitated by one of our parents and a junior student who belongs to Guelph’s Muslim community. Throughout the year we’ve had several presentations that teach our primary students knowledge and appreciation about various religious and cultural celebrations observed by the myriad of groups that make up our wonderful community. On Wednesday, we noticed many students wearing pink and there were many good conversations happening in the classroom around inclusion and acceptance. Also, did you know that we have chess club, skipping club, eco club, drama/singing/dance club, and many more? Great things are happening at EJPS!
