Principal’s Year End Message June 28, 2023

Chers parents,

Tomorrow is the last day of the 2022-23 school year and I can’t wait to see everyone back for September 5th on the first day of school! With that said, you will receive an email in late August communicating back to school instructions and procedures. Also, as we did this year, you will receive an email over the long weekend indicating who your child’s teacher will be and where to meet on the tarmac for the first day of school. For your convenience, I have attached some helpful information from Transportation for those students who take the bus.

Please make arrangements to pick up your student’s medication from the school no later than Thursday, June 29th. If you require the school to store meds for the 2023-2024 school year, they can be dropped off in September with the appropriate form/Plan of Care: https://www.ugdsb.ca/board/policy/policy-518-students-with-life-threatening-medical-conditions/

Below is my final message of the 2022-2023 school year to the EJPS community:

Students, this year, you did your best and worked as a team with your parents and teachers to continue learning and growing. We had so many of you step up and be leaders and bucket fillers! Great job everyone, we did it!

Parents, more than any other time I can think of, the partnership between parents and teachers has never been more important and the staff at EJPS cannot express enough gratitude for the daily support and the much needed volunteering. Thanks to our School Council as well. Throughout the year you continued to support our students by offering nutrition options, raising funds for trips, chromebooks, musical instruments, sports equipment, and our playground. A special shout out to our Treasurer and long time Executive Council member, Meghan O’Blenes. She has volunteered in the school for years and years. Gardens, nutrition programs, family events, council events and so much more. She has helped and been hands on in the school. She is stepping down from her role next year and we will miss her at our meetings, but will still see her around the school. Thank you Meghan! We also have to thank our Council Chair, Natasha Papadedes for inspiring our parents and staff and for ensuring our students have as many opportunities and enhancements to school life as possible.

Now for the Staff at EJPS. First, thank you to our lunch hour supervisors Mme Ready, Mme O’Blenes, and Mme Brown and those who filled in. Also, our bus drivers, crossing guards and caretakers Mr. Sweeney and Mrs. Geensen who keep us learning, safe and healthy. Thank you, to our EA, Mme Dokis and our CYC, Mme Boyle who have been a rocks to many and ensure that everyone’s day goes smoothly. What would we do without Mme McLeod? She is often the first kind voice a student, parent or staff member hears when coming into the office. Her helpfulness, patience and attention to detail is second to none. Last, I want to say that there is no teaching staff as committed to children as we have at EJPS. I am so proud of the hard work our teachers have undertaken this year.

We also want to wish our Grade 6 Graduates all the best in middle school. You were an outstanding group of leaders and were excellent role models by always “Working Hard, Being Nice and Staying Safe”. And best wishes to any of our families who are moving to other neighbourhoods, towns or cities. You will be missed.

We also wish the best to some of our incredible staff who are moving on to new schools. Thank you to LTOs M Henke and Mme McIntyre for making Kindergarten a fun and a happy place! M Teasdale, thank you for making Primary Planning an exciting time and for playing guitar and singing songs! Mme Kavanagh thank you for stepping in in the middle of the year and taking over several roles and being so dedicated in your efforts. Mme Smith, thank you for being a rockstar teacher and making learning an adventure everyday all the while getting your grade 6 class ready for Grade 7.  We have been so lucky at EJPS to have such dedicated and talented LTOs and we hope you get to come back to us next year or sometime in the future. Next, Mme Shirton-Smith, I know how much your students and parents appreciated your super skills and caring ways with the Gr 3\4 class this year. We wish you the best at your new school next year. Finally, Mme Motto. Thank you for all you have done for EJ over the years and for your super efforts, skills, contributions and modeling a growth mindset. We wish you all the best in your new school!

On behalf of the staff at EJPS, we wish all students and parents a safe and happy summer. And remember, learning never stops. So this summer please keep reading, creating and trying new things.

Have a safe and happy summer,

Olivier Cutz (Principal)
