There was some fun in the sun for a great cause earlier this month at Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute.
On June 2, students from the school came together in solidarity and support at their Relay for Life event.
“Led by four dedicated co-chairs, Ava, Brooklyn, Emma, and Molly, along with a core group of volunteers, these Grade 11 students organized a memorable event that not only built a strong sense of community within their school but also raised an incredible $62,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society — beating their fundraising goal by $32,000,” said a June 19 news release.
The motivation behind hosting the event was personal, as when Ava and Molly were in Grade 9, their teacher was diagnosed, inspiring them to want to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
The success of the event can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of the co-chairs and their exceptional core group of volunteers: Akum, Anna, Desi, Farah, Jasmine, Lauren, Mirren and Phoebe, said the release.
