Hello Arbour Vista families,
What an amazing week we’ve had at school, capped off by our annual Terry Fox Walk! It was incredibly moving to see so many students participating with energy and enthusiasm, united in honoring the legacy of a true Canadian hero. The sense of community and dedication to such a meaningful cause was truly inspiring. We’re so proud of everyone who took part!
OPEN HOUSE
We look forward to seeing families who are able to attend our School Open House on Thursday, September 25 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to connect, explore the school, and engage with teachers and staff.
SCHOOL DRILLS
The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. While we hope that we will never face a situation requiring emergency personnel at our school, it’s essential that we are fully prepared to respond quickly and effectively should such an incident occur. Please find below the link to a letter explaining the types of drills that will happen throughout the school year.

ARRIVING A FEW MINUTES EARLY SETS THE TONE FOR A SUCCESSFUL DAY
When students arrive right at the bell, it can be challenging for them to get settled and into class on time. Rushing across the tarmac and through the halls can create unnecessary stress and anxiety, especially when walking into a classroom that’s already underway. We encourage families to make it a habit of arriving at least 5 minutes early. This small shift helps students transition calmly into their day, connect with peers, and be ready to learn from the moment the bell rings.
KISS AND RIDE/ BIKES
Thank you for not parking in our Kiss and Ride Zone and having students exit from the right side of the car. This allows for less congestion and a smoother drop off in the morning. Please remember that bikes and scooters must be walked on school property to avoid collisions.
SUPPORTING SMOOTH TRANSITIONS FOR YOUNG LEARNERS
If your child is having difficulty with transitions (e.g., saying goodbye at drop-off), we encourage a quick and confident goodbye. Lingering can sometimes increase anxiety. A consistent routine and reassurance that they are safe and cared for helps build comfort over time. We’re here to support.
DANCEATHON-COMING SOON!
The Danceathon is back! Watch for pledge envelopes coming home on Thursday. Help us reach our goal of raising $5000 for the DancED program. If you’re interested in volunteering at the Danceathon, make sure you have your police check (VSC) and volunteers up to date and on file with the School.
FOOD GUIDELINES
Celebrating special events and occasions at school is a great way to create a positive atmosphere. Please consider celebrating with non-food items such as pencils, stickers, books, puzzles, or board games. Food items come with risks for our students with life-threatening food allergies or medical conditions. To reduce the risk to students, only pre-planned and office approved food items, with listed ingredients will be distributed in class.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO LABEL YOUR CHILD’S BELONGINGS
When items are labeled, we can do our best to return them to their rightful owner. Students often take off their sweatshirts or jackets when they get warm outside and forget to bring them back into the school. These items frequently end up in the lost and found.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST IN THE UGDSB
During this school year, an Occupational Therapist (OT) and Physiotherapist (PT) from KidsAbility Centre for Child Development will once again be working with teachers and students in our school. For Additional information please click below.
