Arbour Vista

Hello Arbour Vista families,

We're thrilled to embark on another week of exciting events and experiences at Arbour Vista.

Mental Health & Education Week

Mental Health and Education Week officially launches next week! May 4 to May 8.  This year’s theme is “Feel Well, Think Well, Learn Well… Together”.

Class Building for 2026-2027 School Year

Please note that consideration for special placement requests, for exceptional circumstances, closes today at the end of the day. Our team takes a great deal of time and care to thoughtfully review all information as we make placement decisions. After that time, we won’t be able to consider additional requests.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser

If you ordered cookie dough, pick up will be on May 21st  between 2:00 and 5:00pm.  Don’t forget that orders need to be kept frozen. Please note that they must be picked up on this day, during this time slot, as we do not have freezer space available.  Orders can be placed until May 7th on School Cash Online.

Health Curriculum

This year, the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations found in strand D of The Ontario Curriculum: Health and Physical Education, Grades 1-8, will be taught during the months of May and June.

“The Healthy Living strand helps students develop an understanding of the factors that contribute to healthy development, a sense of personal responsibility for lifelong health, and a respect for their own health in relation to others and the world around them. Students will develop health literacy as they acquire the knowledge and skills they need to develop, maintain, and enjoy healthy living as well as to solve problems, make decisions, and set goals that are directly related to their personal health and mental health and well-being. Learning how to establish, monitor, and maintain healthy relationships is a key part of this strand. The focus of the learning in this strand is not merely on health knowledge but rather on higher-level thinking connected to the application of skills for healthy living.”

Letters from the school will go home prior to instruction. Any requests for exemption should be made to Mme Hare or Mme Languedoc.

Child Abuse Prevention

Students from grade JK-8 will receive mandatory Child Abuse Prevention. Students will be taught age-appropriate lessons to help identify abuse and to protect themselves from abusive situations. The goal is to provide children with the tools they need to keep themselves safe.

Special Olympics

The Special Olympics are back for 2026! With a focus on friendly competition and companionship, the event provides the opportunity for students with exceptional, physical or cognitive abilities to participate in track and field events, set goals, develop skills and improve their overall levels of fitness. Peer coaches play an important role in motivating the athletes and building connections. Although the top athletes will be recognized for their efforts in the different events, everyone comes away feeling like a winner! Arbour Vista students will be cheering on our Special Olympics athletes as they head to St. James to compete on May 13th - best of luck to our Vipers!

Kiss and Ride

The parking lot is a very busy place in the morning.  Thank you for continuing to use the kiss and ride as designed by dropping off your children and not leaving your car.  Please be extra vigilant in the parking lot as we have many young students who are crossing from parked cars to the school property.  Please drive slowly and be on alert

Message from School Council

We are pleased to welcome Women in Crisis to Arbour Vista for a powerful and informative presentation on online safety and human trafficking taking place on May 5th at 6:00pm, followed by an in-person School Council Meeting. Planning to attend? Please register.

Family Fun Night is in full preparation mode, and we’re looking forward to a wonderful evening! Volunteers will be contacted shortly with additional details. Thank you again to everyone who has supported the event through volunteer sign-ups and contributions to our Basket Draw. More information about the Basket Draw was sent home through your child’s teacher.

This week, pizza and samosa pre-orders will be available through School Cash Online. Please note that these will be the only food options available at Family Fun Night and must be pre-ordered in advance.

There will also be snacks and ice cream available for purchase during the event; however, additional pizza or samosas will not be available for sale that evening unless they have been pre-ordered.

Thank you for your continued support-we can’t wait to celebrate with everyone!

Have a great week!
