Hello Arbour Vista families,

What an incredible week we had at school, capped off by our annual Terry Fox Walk! Seeing so many students bring their energy and enthusiasm to honor the legacy of a true Canadian hero was inspiring. We are so proud of our entire school community for their dedication to such a meaningful cause!

Open House

We look forward to seeing families who are able to attend our School Open House on Thursday, September 24th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to connect, explore the school, and engage with teachers and staff.

Student Safety & Support Information

Please see the linked updates for families regarding Child and Youth Counsellor (CYC) supports, the Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) process, and our Suicide Prevention and Intervention Protocol.

School Drills

The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. While we hope that we will never face a situation requiring emergency personnel at our school, it’s essential that we are fully prepared to respond quickly and effectively should such an incident occur. Please find below the link to a letter explaining the types of drills that will happen throughout the school year.

Arriving on Time

Now that we are settling into our routines, we encourage families to aim to arrive a few minutes before the bell whenever possible. Students who arrive a little early have time to settle in, connect with peers, and transition smoothly into the classroom, helping them feel calm, prepared, and ready to learn when the day begins. The first few minutes of the morning set the tone for a positive and successful day.

Kiss n’ Ride/Bikes

Thank you for not parking in our Kiss and Ride Zone and having students exit from the right side of the car. This allows for less congestion and a smoother drop off in the morning. Please remember that bikes and scooters must be walked on school property to avoid collisions.

Danceathon-COMING SOON!

The Danceathon is back! Watch for pledge envelopes coming home in the near future, following our Kick Off Assembly next Thursday. Help us reach our goal of raising $5000. Funds raised will be used to enhance student experiences, including support for arts programming and community-building initiatives such as dancED. If you’re interested in volunteering at the Danceathon, make sure you have your police check (VSC) and or  your annual offence declaration on file with the School.

Food Guidelines

Celebrating special events and occasions at school is a great way to create a positive atmosphere. Please consider celebrating with non-food items such as pencils, stickers, books, puzzles, or board games. Food items come with risks for our students with life-threatening food allergies or medical conditions. To reduce the risk to students, only pre-planned and office approved food items, with listed ingredients will be distributed in class.

Personal Items Brought to School

Students and parents are reminded that if they choose to bring valuable personal items to school, the school board will not cover loss or damage.

Please Remember to Label Items

When items are clearly labeled, we have a much better chance of returning them to their owner. As the weather remains warm, students often remove sweatshirts or jackets during outdoor time and may accidentally leave them behind. Labeling clothing helps us quickly reunite lost items with their owners and reduces the number of items ending up in the lost and found.

Occupational Therapist in the UGDSB

During this school year, an Occupational Therapist (OT) and Physiotherapist (PT) from KidsAbility Centre for Child Development will once again be working with teachers and students in our school.  For Additional information please click below.
