The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) is pleased to share that student achievement results for 2024–2025 show steady, long-term growth and strong performance above the provincial average in every EQAO assessment area.
Three years of results demonstrate that the board’s focused investments in early literacy, mathematics, and Grade 9 de-streamed learning are having a clear and positive impact on student success.
“We are very proud of the progress our students are making,” said Peter Sovran, UGDSB Director of Education. “These results show that our long-term strategies are working. Our staff have been deeply committed to strengthening early reading and math instruction, and we are seeing meaningful gains year after year.”
Across all three UGDSB laser-focus areas—Grade 3 Reading, Grade 3 Math, and Grade 9 Math—students have shown consistent improvement over the last four years.
Examples of multi-year gains (2022-23 to 2024-25) include:
Grade 3 Reading: 70% → 79%
Grade 3 Math: 57% → 68%
Grade 9 Math: 52% → 63%

These results reflect the board’s ongoing work to strengthen foundational skills and support educators with research-based resources, coaching, and targeted interventions.
UGDSB Outperforms the Province in Every Assessment Area
This year’s provincial results show that UGDSB students are achieving above the Ontario average in all 10 assessment categories, including primary, junior, Grade 9, and OSSLT.
Highlights include:
Grade 3 Reading: 79% UGDSB vs. 74% Ontario (+5)
Grade 3 Math: 68% UGDSB vs. 64% Ontario (+4)
Grade 6 Reading: 90% UGDSB vs. 86% Ontario (+4)
