We have been busy recognizing Black History Month at Hyland Heights! We launched our month with an in class assembly to find out why we celebrate Black History Month and some of the famous Black Canadians we celebrate this month.
Throughout the month teachers have been using a calendar with a daily video to learn about either an influential and inspiring person or learning about the different ways that being different and unique makes us special.
At the end of our month to wrap things up students have been invited to enter a t-shirt contest. Each division has a different message to share on their shirt and the winner of each division will get their t-shirt made for them to keep!
Thank you to our empowerment group for our daily "what do you know" announcements about a different famous person of colour each day!
