Dear PCPS Families,

Even though it was a short week, we have a lot of activity to recognize over the past few days.  Congratulations to our Grade 8 Girls and Boys Basketball team for representing our school with Panther pride, great sportsmanship, and skill.  They hosted the first of their competitive games against Credit Meadows and were so proud of their efforts!   Mme. Matanovic hosted Chef a l’ecole and students enjoyed cooking and speaking in French.   Our snack program continues to thrive at PCPS with the support of Ms. Stevenson, Ms. Morrell and student leaders who deliver snack bins to be available in all classes.PCPS

Black History Month

February is Black History Month. Students at PCPS will be engaing in learning, conversations and activities that promote Black Brilliance, Black Futures and Black History in Canada.

February 5th, 2026 - Get Outreachworks Assembly

Mission and Goals: G.E.T. Outreachworks is driven by a mission to promote education, diversity, and community growth. The organization’s overarching goals is to foster positive collaborative relationships through community engagement. Specifically, the goals of this program revolve around educational and cultural awareness. By intertwining these elements, the program seeks to create a lasting impact on students and the broader community, encouraging a deeper understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. Students will join an assembly that uses Dance to share this important learning.

Read a Thon - This week, Mr. V is hosting a Read-a-Thon challenge for PCPS students.  Students will receive a pledge sheet and parents who wish to donate can do so on SchoolCashOnline.   Classes with the highest participation rate will win prizes. Rewards: The class with the highest donation totals will win a pizza party! The class with the second-highest donation totals will win a free gym period! The class with the third-highest donation totals will win a free maker space period!  Donations will be totaled at the end of February 16, 2026, one week after the Read-a-thon ends, so please ensure your pledges are in by that time. Thank you for supporting your school library!

School closures due to extreme cold weather : The decision to close schools is made by the Director of Education of the Upper Grand DSB.  If a decision is made to close schools, an alert will be posted on the board and school websites.

School crossing guards and service on extremely cold days:  Municipal crossing guards may not be providing service as a result of the extreme cold temperatures and each municipality determines how it handles crossing guards and severe weather.  Additionally, parents and guardians should be aware that municipal crossing guards may not be providing service as a result of the extreme cold temperatures. Each municipality determines how it handles crossing guards and severe weather. Please contact your municipality if you have questions.

No Bus Days: We Are Open! A reminder that on no bus days, we are here for learning. A very small percentage of our students are bussed, so teachers carry on with a normal learning day. Our school is open for all who can safely make it here. If your child does not ride the bus and will not be attending school, you need to call in their absence please. This helps Ms. Marnie with her safe arrival procedures in a timely manner. Thank you for your help with this.

Field Trips/Volunteers - If you are interested in volunteering for a field trip, please note that all volunteers are required to have a current VSC.  If you’ve already provided the school with one, you need to fill out the declaration form we have in the office.    It is currently taking up to 8 weeks to process and for some of our Spring trips, you may consider having one completed sooner than later.
