Dear PCPS Families,

We had another busy and exciting week at Parkinson Centennial.   We successfully completed our spring lock down and severe weather drill.  In the upcoming weeks, we will use our spring fire drills to practice how to safely evacuate over 380 students and staff ensuring our school knows what to do in case of an emergency.

Our PCPS Panthers represented our school well in the badminton tournament this week. A big thank you as well to Ms. Lowe for her support, and to all of our athletes who competed with sportsmanship and spirit.

This week, classes participated in Earth Day activities, including our Kindergartens who rotated from class to class throughout the school for learning and enrichment experiences.

There is so much happening at Parkinson Centennial.  We have begun planning for our annual Special Olympics and with spring finally here, students have also begun working in our school gardens.

While students were away on Friday, staff were at the  school participating in professional learning, including training in artificial intelligence, Indigenous education, math and literacy, and racism.

Climber & Playground Safety: Our PCPS climbers will remain closed until the frost has fully left the ground. The wood chips will be rotated to ensure a loose and safe surface. Thank you so much for your cooperation and for reinforcing this message with your children.

We will be hosting a "FREE" Dental Clinic at Parkinson Centennial May 4-7 in the school.

Parkinson Centennial families are invited to join the School Council and staff on Thursday, May 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM for our Family Wellness Open House.  This evening will focus on strategies and tools we can all use to care for our wellness, including Zumba, art, connecting to nature, mindfulness, and positive affirmations. Community partners will be in attendance to share information and families will be invited to have a picnic in the backyard. Stay tuned for more information about the evening, picnic and a possible sweet treat! Please RSVP by Thursday, April 30th, if you plan on attending as this helps us to collect the appropriate amount of supplies for activities. RSVP here: https://forms.gle/wd3uuQrppy5mWsf19

Words Matter Day - May 20 - PCPS will be recognizing Words Matter Day.   Words Matter Day is an initiative, often celebrated in May or as part of ongoing campaigns, designed to highlight the power of language in fostering respect, empathy, and inclusion in schools and communities. It promotes using positive language to create a chain reaction of kindness while addressing and reducing harmful or discriminatory language
