Good Morning Parkinson Centennial Families,
We hope everyone was able to stay dry after this wet and chilly weekend.
Students have started to wonder about"when do the playgrounds open?" Board policy states that playgrounds must be closed from November 1st to April 1st due to potential unsafe conditions related to weather and that they must be inspected at the school level and by board staff for any potential safety risks due to equipment that is in need of repair. Of course, we can also have unsafe conditions outside of these dates and make day-to-day decisions about their use as appropriate. We will be doing a school inspection of the equipment early next week and anticipate opening the equipment as quickly as possible. There will be a board inspection of the equipment later in April also.
PCPS is currently in 7th place in the Ontario Schools Battery Recycling Challenge. We need to collect 407 Kg of batteries to reach our school’s pledged goal. Please check your homes for any batteries you may have used that could be put towards our campaign. If you could also share our campaign efforts with extended family, co-workers, and the community, we’re certain we will achieve our goal. Household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, button and 9V) only. We are collecting all month long! Our campaign ends Friday, April 25th.
Cookies for Sale! Starting April 9th, cookies will be for sale on Wednesdays and Fridays at second breaks for $1.50 each. Chocolate chip, fudge chip, funfetti (birthday cake) and oatmeal are for sale while supplies last. Proceeds go towards intermediate trips.
Volunteers Needed: We are continuing to look for adult volunteers to help in the library. If you have submitted a Vulnerable Sector Check to the office and are looking for an opportunity to be present in the school more, please consider volunteering to shelve books in the library. Timing and schedule are highly flexible with no limits on minimum or maximum hours of availability. If you are interested please reach out to Ms. Kaufman at sara.kaufman@ugdsb.on.ca or stop by the office to schedule training.
