Students are welcome to wear black and/or orange or a Halloween costume to celebrate, if they choose.
As a school community, it is our shared responsibility to ensure that costumes are respectful and inclusive. Costumes should not use or imitate identities, cultures, or lived experiences. This includes avoiding cultural appropriation or stereotypes (e.g., cultural or religious garments), blackface or brownface, transphobic representations, body-shaming or objectifying costumes, or costumes that make light of harmful events (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic).
Such choices can reinforce stereotypes and cause harm, further marginalizing or oppressing members of our community. We appreciate everyone’s support in helping make our celebrations safe, inclusive, and respectful for all students and staff.
