We want every family to be able to join the fun! If the cost of Fun Fair activities is a barrier for your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out in confidence to our school and speak to principal, Reena Anand, reena.anand@ugdsb.ca to set up financial support. Class Placements:
As we plan for the 2025/2026 school year, we will be starting to prepare for class organization which involves asking students who they feel they would be best placed with for learning. As a staff, we work very hard to balance classes based on learning needs, strength and needs as well as social dynamics.
Please note, requests are not possibly given the number of students we plan for and staff work very hard to set up students for success.
If you are moving or considering a change to English, please inform your child's teacher as soon as possible as we start to plan for next year and contact Mrs. Aziz.
Elementary Literacy and Numeracy Summer School Programs
The Upper Grand DSB will once again offer summer school literacy and numeracy remediation programs in July 2025. These programs are for students who are currently in grades 6, 7 or 8 and who require additional support in the areas of language arts and math.
This is an opportunity for students to participate in an 8-day, in-person, non-credit remediation program. The program is intended for students whose achievement of expectations in Grade 6, 7 or 8 Language and/or Mathematics indicates that they are likely to experience difficulty in the next school year.
Students who are achieving a Level 2 or below in Language and/or Mathematics at their grade level, and are recommended by their Principal, are eligible to participate in the program.
These support programs are half-day in length so it is possible for students to participate in both the literacy and the numeracy support program.
Daily attendance is required; summer holidays should not be scheduled between July 2 and 11 for students enrolling in summer school.
Session Dates: Wednesday, July 2 – Friday, July 11, 2025
Guelph location: TBD based on enrollment
Dufferin loction: TBD based on enrollment
Please contact your child's teacher and copy Principal Anand if you feel that your child would benefit from the summer literacy and numeracy support programs to discuss submission of an application.
All programs are dependent on sufficient enrollment. Transportation is not provided. Registration will close on Friday, May 30th to make decisions about the number of classes and locations. There may be opportunities for enrollment after May 30th.
Chromebook usage and misuse: We are reaching out to share a serious safety concern involving a recent trend circulating on social media platforms such as TikTok. This trend encourages students to insert metal objects into the charging ports of Chromebooks, causing sparks, short circuits, and in some cases, permanent damage or even fire.
Unfortunately, we have already had incidents of this dangerous behavior attempted in our school. These actions pose a significant safety risk to students and staff and can result in severe damage to school property. Please be advised that any participation in these acts will lead to serious consequences in line with the school’s code of conduct.
We ask for your support in discussing this issue with your child to help them understand the real dangers and impact of engaging in such behavior. Together, we can ensure the safety of our school community and prevent further incidents.
We also ask that students use chromebooks respectfully and understand that any misuse will be dealt with consequences.
Thank you for your attention and partnership in supporting appropriate use of technology.
RCPS Band and Choir: On Thursday, April 24th, the RCPS band participated in the Kiwanis Music Festival of Guelph. The band was awarded a silver ribbon at the festival and this past weekend was further awarded the top elementary school band scholarship for the Guelph Festival. Our RCPS band has been selected to participate in the provincial festival, in which a video submission of the band's performance will be adjudicated alongside other bands from across the province. We are very proud of all the hard work and dedication these students have made towards their musical learning and this amazing achievement. Congratulations RCPS band!
The RCPS grade 6-8 choir recently participated at the Guelph Kiwanis Music Festival. The choir competed in the intermediate choir category and was awarded a silver ribbon for their performance. Congratulations to all choir members on your beautiful performance and this fantastic achievement.
Congratulations to Mme Rafalowski and our students on these amazing achievements!
Have a great week!
